Marine Pollution Bulletin
Toxicology coverage in PolTox II: Excerpta Medica includes: pharmaceutical toxicology; foods, food additives and contaminants; cosmetics, toiletries and household products; occupational toxicology; waste material in air, soil and water; toxins and venoms; chemical teratogens, mutagens and carcinogens; phototoxicity, toxic mechanisms; predictive toxicology; regulatory toxicology; laboratory methods and techniques; antidotes and symptomatic treatment. More than 3500 journals are screened comprehensively for material suitable for inclusion in PolTox II: Excerpta Medica including 100% coverage of the top journals in the fields of toxicology and environmental pollution. The second new CD-ROM is PoiTox III: CAB, a major new database devoted to the agricultural dimensions of pollutions and toxicology. PolTox III: CAB will draw its material from the comprehensive file of worldwide agricultural information produced by CAB International of Wallingford, UK. The CD provides access to the relevant contents of the CAB database, which corresponds to over 50 CABI abstract journals. Updated quarterly, the new CD will hold over 150 000 records from the past seven years. Among the topics to be covered in PolTox III: CAB are: environmental agrochemicals, including insecticides, fungicides, pesticides and fertilizers; groundwater contamination, run-off and leaching; heavy metals in soils, crops and animals; reclamation and re-vegetation of polluted sites; environmental impact of farming; waste management, treatment and disposal; toxicology, including toxic plants, wastes, food poisoning and toxic residues; food contamination; heavy metals as related to health; carcinogens; health hazards of pesticides, drug residues, side effects of drugs, steroids/hormones in animals. "The new, three-volume organisation for PolTox is meant to offer researchers maximum convenience in locating and accessing just the information they want", said Ted Caris, publisher at Cambridge. "Three CDROM products may be obtained either separately or as a complete PolTox database, which provides truly comprehensive coverage of pollution, toxicology and related fields'.' All PolTox databases use the Compact Cambridge 'core' retrieval software, so that anyone already experienced in searching any other Cambridge database will be able to use the same powerful Cambridge software to search the new database.

improving efficiency, UK waste management specialists, Leigh Environmental Ltd, have introduced a comprehensive, portable sampling kit for their on-site chemical waste handling operations. The new kit, designed for use by Leigh's fully qualified personnel sampling waste materials, contains a range of proven safe and effective sampling equipment. This includes a sampling tube, sample jar and funnel for the safe and accurate collection of representative samples of acids, alkalis, cyanides, solvents, oils and organic wastes. A secure container for the safe carriage of hazardous waste samples enables different samples to be kept separate during transportation from customers' premises, for analysis at Leigh's own fully equipped regional laboratories. Used countrywide by Leigh's technical personnel, the kit also contains full protective clothing, including overalls, goggles, gauntlets, boots and a hard hat with safety visor. Respirator equipment with a range of carbon filters, a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher are also included in the kit, which complies fully with the Health & Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and COSH Regulations.
