CVC Scientific Products Ltd announce a small, highly efficient, portable vacuum pump. Low priced and extremely compact and robust, the new SarVac High Vacuum Pump is a direct drive, oil-sealed, rotary vane unit which is both simple and economical to operate. Manufactured by Sargent-Welch, the SarVac pump is available the UK in two versions for 50 Hz operation : the single-stage Model 8802K with & HP thermally protected motor, and the two-stage Model 8804K equipped with a 2 HP motor.

Swagelok Keyed Quick-Connects, with a new positive mechanical lockout system which prevents accidental intermixing of fluids in multiple line applications, are now available from Techmation Ltd. for use with hydraulic, pneumatic, fluid transfer and vacuum systems where it is required that no line is interchangeable with any other. The “keyed” feature has been combined with the standard Swagelok Quick-Connect which operates with an easy push-pull action and provides automatic shut-off to minimize pressure loss or fluid spillage during uncoupling.

Eight different “keys” are available, each one numbered and colour coded. Stems and bodies of unmatched “keys” will not couple with each other or interchange with any other type of quick-connect. Two new digital vacuum ionization gauge controls with unique flexibility are being introduced by Varian Associates. Without modification, the controls operate three different gauge tubes, including the sensitive UHV-24, and cover the widest range of pressure measurement of any single controller. These gauge controls, Models 844 and 845, measure from 10-r torr to the X-ray limit of the particular gauge tube in use. Model 845 has two independent thermocouple gauge controls for continuous pressure reading to 2 torr. Operation is simplified with no zero or emission calibration adjustments, and pressure can be read during resistance and electron bombardment degas. The controls also offer 8CD output, automatic electronic range-changing and minimized susceptibility to conducted and radiated RF energy. This is a simple device for accurate regulation of vacuum pump systems. It works on the needle valve principle and bleeds air into the system, enabling adjustments to be made to very fine limits. The advantage is that the pump can be set to work at optimum efficiency to produce a higher vacuum than required and the fine adjustment to exactly the desired level is made by the regulator. It is supplied in three forms : for fitting into a line, using a T-junction for fitting direct into a flask or vessel, using the standard taper version or for fitting into a system in conjunction with a manifold and pressure gauge.
