New motors aim to save energy Brook Crompton has launched a range of high efficiency motors designed for continuous processes. The new updated WP series all comply with rhe Effl energy efficiency standard, which is the most efficient designation on offer from the European manufacturers who jointly agreed the EU-wide Electric Motor Efficiency Labelling (Eff) scheme. Most Brook Crompton machines, and indeed other manufacturer’s products, fall within the Eff 2 band of the energy efficiency scheme, which means they are suitable for less concentrated applications.

The new range is based on previous Brook Crompton designs and is essentially a refinement of previous WP models. Changes have been made to the winding style and rotor slot geometry. The motors are available in a wide range of outputs starting at 0.75 kW up to 400 kW in 2,4,6 and 8 pole format. In addition, the range is of cast iron construction so can withstand hostile conditions such as those found in chemical plants. The motors should he able to ‘go anywhere’ as they comply with IEC, NEMA and Japanese standards and have obtained UK and CSA approval. The accessible terminal box and four spoke cabie entry design should also help installation in most cases. A twoyear guarantee is available from the manufacturers with this product. Most governments around the world now offer some form of enduser incentive program to encourage the adoption of high efficiency machines and technology and the WI’ range should be acceptable for most national schemes claim Brook Crompton. In the UK for example, the product is available with lOOY&tax relief in the first year under the government’s Enhanced Capical Allowance (ECA) scheme, which is related to the Climate Change Levy (CCL) policy.
