Board Meet

The PNP Certification, the Self-Assessment, and the GPN Certification Committees have met in the last six months to review and finalize the 1989 PNP and GPN certification examinations and the 1990 SelfAssessment Exercise. The process of examination and exercise development begins with the writing of item objectives, followed by review of referenced examination questions. Questions selected by the Committee for inclusion on examinations are later edited and re-reviewed. By the time candidates receive examination or exercise materials, questions have been reviewed by the Committee twice, by editorial staff three times, and by the Executive Committee once. For each examination, this process takes approximately eighteen months. Ad Hoc item writers continue to make valuable contributions to the certification and certification maintenance programs. If you are interested in contributing items, contact the National Board. No formal experience in item writing is needed, only your pediatric expertise. New Committee on Promotion of Quality of Specialty Nursing Practice Formed

The Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation has funded the National Committee for Promotion of Quality of Specialty Nursing Practice. The first meeting of the Cornmittee was held in October 1988, with representatives from associations and credentialing bodies who certify nurses. The goal of this meeting was to consider the various mechanisms available for nurse certification to provide standardization among nursing certification programs. A Task Force from the Committee was established to formalize the actions of the group. 57
