This conference was the first joint conference of the Scandinavian Neuropediatric Society and the Baltic Child Neurology Association in cooperation with the 4th conference of the Estonian Society of Human Genetics. The invited lecturers were most outstanding and contributed much to the success of the conference. Yoshiyuki Suzuki spoke about the future of child neurology: from molecule to patient. Ingrid Tein gave an approach to fatty acid oxidation disorders and Mart Saarma gave a wonderful lecture about neurotrophic factors in development and disease. The highlights of epilepsy surgery were presented by Helen Cross and MarjaLiisa Granstro ¨m. As always, Victor Dubowitz gave an outstanding lecture about muscular dystrophy. Updated and top-level information about Rett syndrome was given to the audience by SakkuBai Naidu. As this was a joint conference with the geneticists 2 days were dedicated to genetics with top calibre lectures by Dian Donnai, Peter G. Barth, H. Ka ¨a ¨rianen, Jaak Jaeken and Richard Villems. The last day of the conference was a ‘syndrome identification workshop’ coordinated by Dian Donnai. All participants were enthusiastic about the meeting. 1090-3798/$ - see front matter
