Noise and vibration analysis software for automotive applications

Designed and constructed by CISE, the automatic corrosion m o n i t o r 1222 can measure the i n s t a n t a n e o u s corrosion rate in metallic materials in aqueous solutions. Its expected use is in continuous monitoring of electric power plant as well as other industrial plant components.

The latest software package from GenRad has been designed for automotive applications. It is intended for the testing of complete, assembled vehicles, engines, transmission systems and other rotating machinery in development, rig testing and production testing.

The instrument allows periodic automatic measurements to be performed at programmable intervals ranging from 1 rain to 24 h, as an alternative to the manual control, and automatically selects the optimal current value during each measurement.

The Automotive Noise and Vibration Analysis Software, ANVAS, embodies a number of advances in the fields of high speed testing,,test automation, batch processing and data management. Rolling-road interaction is achievable. Compatible with the company's ITAS (Integrated Test Analysis System) and MIDAS (Machinery Interactive Display and Analysis Software), it has data porting for SDRC MTL, including MPLUS, SYSTAN and TDAS. Pull-down, mouse-operated menus are available on DEC GPX terminals.

It can be interfaced with up to 32 electrochemical probes, through a multiplexer. A ring buffer memory, protected against power supply failures, can store up to 1600 measurements, characterized by the number of the measurement, the number of the channel, the values of the current, polarization resistance and corrosion rate and the day and hour of the measurement. The recorded data can be simultaneously printed, shown on the display, permanently recorded, or sent to PCs for possible further processing.

Extensive data storage and management capabilities complement the data acquisition and data analysis facilities. Data analysis includes spectral functions and spectral mapping, one-third octave, acoustic intensity, articulation index and high speed order analysis. During high speed order tracking, data storage is compressed. Other

features include total deformation shape display, batch processing and automatic plotting. In networked systems, the data manager provides automatic datapurging and uploading to the host computer. High-speed data acquisition is afforded by 16 channels, each with a 20 kHz bandwidth; and low-speed data acquisition, by 64 channels of 500 Hz bandwidth. Both allow for internal (fixed) or external (tracking) sampling. The digital tracking synthesizer (DTS) provides tracking sampling on all data channels.

Instrumentation and systems technology service The UKAEA's INSYT instrumentation and systems technology service has been formed by linking the instrumentation, surveillance, systems and engineering development sections of the three foremost nuclear research laboratories in the North West of England - Risley, Springfields and Windscale. The Northern Research Laboratories' service has available a wide range of expertise and skills in acoustics, ultrasonics, computer systems, optics, electromagnetics and electrostatics aimed at physical and chemical measurements, plant monitoring and surveillance, process control and information dissemination and analysis. Problems have been identified and resolved throughout the full range of environments encountered in nuclear plant and new manufacturing techniques developed for use in difficult access areas.
