in order to maintain good health, and many other plans such as the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) and Mediterranean diets have similar advice, yet Americans eat only 44% of the recommended amount of seafood. The National Aquaculture Association and American fish farmers are working to put healthy, high quality, sustainable seafood on tables both at home and around the globe. Catfish, cobia, oysters, salmon, tilapia, trout, and many others are considered “superfoods,” providing high quality protein, vitamins, minerals, and n-3 fatty acids while also low in calories, cholesterol, saturated fats, and sodium. Visit the National Aquaculture Association at www.thenaa.net for quick and easy recipes and more information about the benefits of US farm-raised seafood.
SlimLab VacuMed VacuMed’s new SlimLab has been created exclusively for accurate resting metabolic rate measurements using facemasks or mouthpieces. It is a precision instrument with superior accuracy specifically designed for resting energy expenditure (REE), basal metabolic rate (BMR), and resting metabolic rate (RMR) measurements. The units have barometric pressure/altitude–compensated O2 and CO2 sensors and guarantee 3% accuracy on the VO2 measurements. They include Windows-based software for unlimited data storage, report generation, and print test
explanations for test subjects. The SlimLab comes in two versions, the SlimLab and the SlimLab Pro. The difference between the two is that the SlimLAB measures VO2 only and assumes a respiratory quotient (RQ) of 0.85, while the SlimLab Pro measures VO2 and VCO2. This provides real-time RQ to determine carbohydrate and lipid percentages. For more information visit www.vacumed.com.
