Old favourites transformed and revitalised Three new ranges of general purpose industrial gear pumps, introduced by Albany Engineering, represent a merger of the popular Crown and Stanhope types and bring them up to date. Albany has re-designed the two ranges to make them more economic, easier to maintain and with wider operating limits. The new 25,40 and 56 Series are designed for medium and intermittent operation on fluid viscosities from bitumen to solvents.They will find a very wide range of applications on machines, vehicles, plants and processes. Standard pumps in the ranges run at up to 10 bar, from 100 to 1725 rpm and at temperatures up to 95°C. However, the company says high performance versions are available to run at up to 3000 rpm and 200°C. Ten sizes of gear pump are offered, with deliveries from 4.2 l/min at lObar from the smallest

Many types of rotating equipment, such as double reduction gear boxes, worm gears, externally lubricated pumps, sleeve bearing motors and coal pulverizers have shafts that are submerged, or partially submerged in lubricating oil. Standard oil seals that do not incorporate bearing isolation technology quickly fail and allow lubricant to collect on the exterior of rotating equipment. The accumulation of lubricant on the face of the gearboxes not only is a housekeeping problem, it is an indication of constant lubricant loss that must be replaced if the equipment is to continue to function.
