technology applications such as alkaline cleaners, degreasing baths and alkaline solutions. They can also cope with seawater and chloride water as well as with water treatment duties. Rugged design - with suction and discharge nozzles made from one casting - enables the pump casing to absorb external piping forces. Another feature is the pump’s ease of installation even under cramped conditions. Generously dimensioned shafts, bearings, screw unions and standardised mechanical seals to DIN 24 960 make the unit suitable for industrial applications and are designed for service lives of up to 15000 operating hours. The flow noise is damped by the water-filled shroud enclosing the hydraulic system so that the pumps can be operated even in quiet environments. KSB says the Multichrom C pumps are available for temperatures ranging from -30 to 120°C. The mechanical seal’s elastomer O-rings are made from EPDM, fluorocarbon rubber (Viton) or HNBR.The materials used for the spring-loaded ring and the seat ring are tungsten carbide and resin-impregnated hard carbon. Compliant coupling guards should prevent complaints Bell & Gossett has introduced a new line of ANSI and OSHA-

Compliant Coupling Guards that offer increased protection against potential injuries and conform to the specific requirements of ANSI B 15.1, section 8 and OSHA 1910.219. Engineered to provide personnel with the highest possible level of safety and protection from rotating equipment, the guards are available in numerous sizes to cover all B&G frame mounted centrifugal pumps. The new guards feature slotted viewing windows for easy inspection and are also available in easy-toinstall change-out kits for units already installed in the field. The coupling guards are now standard on all Series VSC/VSCS,Series HSC and Series 15 10 centrifugal pumps from Bell & Gossett. Old favourites transformed and revitalised Three new ranges of general purpose industrial gear pumps, introduced by Albany Engineering, represent a merger of the popular Crown and Stanhope types and bring them up to date. Albany has re-designed the two ranges to make them more economic, easier to maintain and with wider operating limits. The new 25,40 and 56 Series are designed for medium and intermittent operation on fluid viscosities from bitumen to solvents. They will find a very wide range of applications on machines, vehicles, plants and processes. Standard pumps in the ranges run at up to 10 bar, from 100 to 1725 rpm and at temperatures up to 95°C. However, the company says high performance versions are available to run at up to 3000 rpm and 200°C. Ten sizes of gear pump are offered, with deliveries from 4.2 l/min at lObar from the smallest

of the 25 Series up to 280 l/min, also at 10 bar, from the largest 56 Series unit. The pumps are self priming, with constant, non-pulsating flow and an excellent vacuum action. Oil seal is also a bearing isolator The latest STS oil seal from Inpro/Seal also doubles up as a bearing isolator, keeping contaminants out and lubricants in. Many types of rotating equipment, such as double reduction gear boxes, worm gears, externally lubricated pumps, sleeve bearing motors and coal pulverizers have shafts that are submerged, or partially submerged in lubricating oil. Standard oil seals that do not incorporate bearing isolation technology quickly fail and allow lubricant to collect on the exterior of rotating equipment. The accumulation of lubricant on the face of the gearboxes not only is a housekeeping problem, it is an indication of constant lubricant loss that must be replaced if the equipment is to continue to function. Inpro/Seal’s new combination oil seal and bearing isolator is a major improvement in the field of bearing protection and is the first bearing protection device that addresses both contaminant expulsion and lube retention while the bearing and shaft are submerged under a head of oil. It also incorporates a replaceable insert that will restore perfect performance in the event of possible wear over time. Contact: InproISeal Company, PO Box 3940, Rock Island, IL 61204, USA.
