The society is holding a one day workshop on Wet Filtration at the UMIST Conference Centre, Manchester, UK on Thursday 6 November. It is aimed specifically at users/operators of filtration equipment for solid-liquid separation in the Chemical and Process Industries. The workshop will cover many general aspects such as: a basic introduction to filtration theory; a brief look at methods of particle size measurement; the effect of particle shape, orientation and concentration on the formation of a filter cake; methods of improving filter rates; the use of precoat and bodyaid for improving filtrate clarity and overall filterability; a review of filtration equipment used for solid-liquid separation; and methods for monitoring filter performance. Part of the meeting will include the presentation of a number of case studies for an open and informal discussion.
