Immediately following the awards presentation, the festivities continue with all the style and flair the Pacific Rim has to offer. Drawn to the beat of the time-honored Japanese Taiko drums, a lion will appear and slowly wind through the room. The drums and lion dance are ancient forms of communication and play an integral part in Japanese ceremonies. You will be led by the lion to the Exhibition Hall for the Opening Cocktail Reception.

Annual Meeting Dedication to Gustav 0. Kruger The 79th Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons is dedicated to Gustav 0. Kruger, Jr., DDS, DSc, in recognition of his life-long contributions to the specialty. Dr. Kruger received his dental degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry and trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He was professor of oral surgery and was chairman of the OMS department and director of the dental department at Georgetown University School of Dentistry from 1948 to 1982. Dr. Kruger's service in the 1\avy during World War II enlarged the role of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon in triage and trauma care. His long and illustrious career in teaching and practice in Washington, DC, found him president of the District of Columbia Dental Society, Middle Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and chairman of the Review Commission for Oral Surgery of the American Dental Association's Council on Dental Education. He is the editor of a widely used textbook on oral surgery that has been published in six editions and several languages. Dr. Kruger is also author of over sixty articles. He received an Honorary Doctor of Dental Science degree from Georgetown in 1977 and the Award for University Service in 1983. He has served on many committees of the American Association of Dental Schools, American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and on numerous editorial boards. Dr. Kruger serves as consultant to several VA hospitals and Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Navy Medical Center. Dr. Kruger, a recipient of the Simon P. Hullihen Award and the Arnold K. Maislen Award, was president of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1964.
