effects ou them. The efficacy of Lithium treatment in Bipolar Disorder is widely demonstrated. On the other hand, Lithium may produce several dermatological adverse effects iucludiug psoriasis; in fact, wheu taking lithium coutiuuously, psoriasis cau be triggered or worseued aud psoriasis teuds to be resistaut to treatment (Skerritt, 1987); the evolution of psoriasis seems to be parallel to treatment with lithium. Aim of the study was to assess the relationship betweeu bipolar spectrum aud psoriasis. 30 psoriatics aud 30 control subjects were recruited. They rated themselves 011 the Structured Clinical Iuterview for Bipolar Spectrum (SCI-MOOD), the Structured Clinical Iuterview for ObsessiveCompulsive Spectrum (SCI-OBS), the Structured Clinical Iuterview for Social Phobia Spectrum (SCI-SHY) aud the Structured Clinical Iuterview for Panic-Agoraphobic Spectrum (SCI-PAS). Psoriatics obtained higher scores to SCI-MOOD in manic symptoms related part (p=O.OOS), uot in depressive symptoms related one. The domaius “mood phenomenology” aud “energy levels” related to mama showed the most significant differences betweeu the groups (p=O.O02, p=O.O15 respectively). Iuterviewed did uot show auy significant difference in total scores of the other administered questionnaires. Our data show a significant association betweeu psoriasis aud subthreshold manic symptoms, included in bipolar spectrum, cousistiug of symptoms that may be prodromal, precursors of full disorder or sequelae of a previous full disorder. We cau suppose the existence of common predisposing factors betweeu Bipolar Disorder aud psoriasis. Previous literature reports that lithium leads to the developmeut of psoriatis in predisposed subjects ouly (Wolf et al., 2000); consequently, the developmeut of psoriasis in patients affected by Bipolar Disorder, treated with lithium, could be mainly justified by above-meutioued common predisposing factors rather thau by a drug adverse effect. Object: The purpose of this study was to iuvestigate which cognitive fuuctious were related to depressive symptoms in elderly people. Method: The author had interviews with 100 elderly people registered in the Public Welfare Center in Gwa-cheou, the urban community of Kyuug-gi-do in Korea. Depressive symptoms were measured by Korean form of Geriatric Depression Scales (KGDS). The measured cognitive fuuctiou tests were Korean version of Mini-Meutal state Examination (MUSE-K), Korean version of Memory Assessment Scales (K-MAS), Verbal fluency test, Clock Drawing Task, Wechsler digit substitution test aud Wechsler similarity test. Iustrumeutal Activity of Daily Living (IADL) scale was also measured. Result: The correlations betweeu Korean form of Geriatric Depression Scales (KGDS) aud each cognitive fuuctiou tests

were analyzed. In demographic factors, family type-such as living alone, living with spouse aud living with one’ s children-was significautly correlated with Korean form of Geriatric Depression Scales (KGDS), but education, marital status, occupation, aud economic state were uot correlated with. The scores of Korean fonn of Geriatric depression scale (KGDS) were uegatively correlated with compreheusiou subtest of Korean version of Mini-Meutal state Examination (K-MMSE), delayed recall of Korean version of Memory Assessment Scales (K-MAS), auimal aud country of the category verbal fluency tests, ’ 11’ of phonemic verbal fluency tests aud Wechsler digit substitution test. Conclusion: The results suggest that depressive symptoms are highly related with familial support. High levels of depressive symptoms are associated with cognitive decline, especially in compreheusiou aud judgment, delayed recall, verbal memory aud Visio-spatial coordiuatiou in elderly people.

Some clinical data suggest that coadministration of piudolol, a 5-HTt*/S-HT&-adreuoceptor autagouist, with autidepressaut drugs cau be effective at producing a shortened time to ouset of a clinical action aud cau euhauce beneficial effects in a therapyresistaut depression; this effect has beeu attributed to the autagouist effects of piudolol at the presyuaptic 5-HTt* receptors. The results of rat microdialysis studies indicate relative importance of 5-HTt* aud 5-HTtu autoreceptors in the mechanism of action of selective serotouiu reuptake iuhibitors (SSRIs) or mouoamiue oxidase iuhibitors (MAOIs) (Gardier et al., 1996). Iuteractiou betweeu autidepressauts aud 5-HTt* a&or 5-HTtu ligauds are currently evaluated in auimal models of depression, however the obtained results turued out to be inconsistent. In our earlier paper we demonstrated that 5-HTtu (but uot 5-HTt*) receptor autagouists revealed the autidepressaut-like effect of paroxetiue in the forced swimming test in rats, while 110 iuteractiou was observed betweeu fluoxetiue aud 5-HTt*/S-HTtu receptor autagouists (Tatarczynska et al., 2002). In the present study we examined effects of SSRI citalopram, 5-HTiuoradreualiue (NA) reuptake iuhibitor imipramiue, selective NA reuptake iuhibitor desipramiue or MAO-A iuhibitor moclobemide in combiuatiou with either a ~-HT~A receptor autagouist WAY 100635 or 5-HTtu receptor autagouists GR 127935 aud SB 216641 in the forced swimming test in rats. Wheu giveu alone, citalopram (20 aud 30 mgkg), imipramiue (20 mgkg), desipramiue (20 mgkg), moclobemide (20 mgikg), WAY 100635 (0.1 aud 1 mgkg), GR 127935 (10 aud 20 mgkg) aud SB 216641 (2 mgkg) did uot shorteu the immobility time of rats. The higher doses of imipramiue, desipramiue, moclobemide aud SB 216641 produced a significant reduction of the immobility of rats. Iuactive doses of the autidepressauts aud the autagouists were chosen for use in iuteractiou studies. Coadministration of WAY 100635 (0.1 aud 1 mgkg) aud citalopram (20 mgkg), imipramiue (20 mgkg) or moclobemide (20 mgkg) did uot affect the behavior of rats in the forced swimming test, whereas wheu it was giveu jointly with desipramiue (20 mgkg), that combiuatiou slightly but
