Company News Garlock introduces two new manufacturing plants

G

arlock has begun production in India and also completed a new plant in Houston, TX, USA. The plant at Pune, India will be manufacturing Helicoflex(R) spring-energized metal seals in a new production facility. The company is producing the seals for the local market, which includes the power generation, semiconductor and chemical processing industries. “Growing demand for our sealing products calls for a physical presence in India, one of the world’s fastest-growing economies,” said Harald Poppke, managing director of Garlock’s operations in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa. “The products we will be manufacturing there find extensive application in the power generation industry, particularly nuclear plants. India’s demand for electrical energy is expected to more than double by the year 2030, making this a particularly promising market for us.” Garlock will share the 1100m2 plant with GGB, another company in the EnPro Group that produces metal-polymer plain bearings. The joint plant will operate under the auspices of EnPro India.

pumps and motors to quantify the effectiveness of bearing isolators. This worksheet allows plant staff to calculate their own ROI relative to the use of bearing isolators, including benchmarks of current repair costs and the effect of increasing the reliability of rotating equipment. The interactive worksheet allows the end user to plug in their respective numbers to benchmark the amount of repairs and maintenance dollars saved by installing bearing isolators. Data entered includes; plant number of pumps and motors in operation; bearing isolator per unit costs; and the average meantime between failures (MTBF). The worksheet then calculates the actual costs of the bearing isolators, taking MTBF and previous maintenance histories into consideration. It also provides information such as accumulated savings, ROI; total investment, net return, data for life-cycle costing and the use of more efficient motors.

The company has also completed construction of a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Houston, Texas. The 6000m2 facility will produce metallic gasket products. The distribution centre has also been expanded with a broader selection of product lines. Garlock in the USA has also received an environmental leadership award from the Rochester Journal for the design of the new plant in Palmyra, N.Y.
