orvair Filtration Group has appointed industrial process specialist Sofise as its distributor in France. The partnership also strengthens Porvair’s ability to support customers in the North African filtration market, as Sofise supplies a range of products in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, as well as in France. Sofise has more than 15 years of experience in the filtration industry. With particular expertise in metallic filter elements and inkjet filters, the Sofise team of specialists serves the chemical process, industrial process, printing, food and beverage, OEM and pharmaceutical industries. As well as the distribution of Porvair’s Sinterflo® range of fibre, mesh and powder filter elements, Sofise will be focusing on a range of products for the inkjet markets. Porvair expects the partnership to open up new markets that will support its wider growth plans as part of an expanding global distribution network. Nish Thakrar, divisional sales manager at Porvair, said: “We are very pleased to announce our ‘channel partnership’ with Sofise. Xylem executives participate in IWA World Water Congress in Tokyo

number of Xylem executives took part in industry discussions during

the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition which was held in Tokyo, Japan from 16–21 September 2018. Patrick Decker, Xylem president and CEO, was part of the keynote plenary discussion The Digital Economy: opportunities and risks of the inevitable process of digitization, where industry leaders addressed the digitization of water and its impact on utilities. Shuping Lu, president of Xylem China, participated in the Disruptive Thinking Networking Breakfast, which discussed the future of utilities in the context of the challenges of ageing infrastructure and more extreme weather events. Lu also represented Xylem at the Utility Leaders Summit, which explored what utility leaders can do to secure a more sustainable water future for their communities, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Joseph Vesey, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Xylem, joined a panel discussion examining Decisionmaking with uncertainty – challenges facing water professionals. This discussion focused on methodologies and tools that can support those working in the industry to make informed decisions, despite factors such as climate change and demographics contributing to an uncertain future. Xylem manager of strategy & marketing for Europe Randolf Webb chaired the Emerging Water Leaders Forum session which addressed strategic problem solving to key water challenges. Webb also participated in the IWA Strategic Council and IWA Governing Assembly. Tom Mills, smart water team director for Xylem, participated in the Digitalization of Water, Trends & Opportunities session. Xylem executives also led technical sessions presenting two Xylem studies: Value of Water Information: Overcoming The Global Data Drought and Physico-chemical Treatment – Nanomaterials. Xylem technical papers and posters were also presented, including: Korea’s First Full Scale UV AOP System Put To The Test - Development Of A Novel Control Philosophy For UV Based AOPs and Sustainable SBR Treatment: Treatment Efficiency, Energy, Off-gas Emissions.
