European Society for Vascular Surgery

Dear Colleagues and Members of the Society, It is a pleasure to have the opportunity of addressing all members on this page in the Journal. This enables us to continuously provide information about the activities of the Society. I wish you all welcome to the 2006 Conference which will be held in Prague. As you have seen from previous invitations by the Local Organising Committee, Prague is well worth visiting not only for its beauty but above all for a meeting that will meet high scientific standards. I suggest that you take an extra day to get the full benefit of both. I urge you to send your abstracts to this meeting since it is the contributions from the members that constitute the basis of the yearly meeting. Those of you who attended the Helsinki meeting 2005 noted that there were some changes in the programme compared to previous meetings. The ESVS Symposium was a great success and in Prague we will increase the number to two symposiae arranged by the Society. They will focus on core vascular surgery, lower extremity ischaemia and venous disease and it is the intention to provide you with state of the art lectures. Furthermore the young vascular surgeon´s session will be changed after discussions with the junior members of the society. We will now have a poster session located in the exhibition area giving the opportunity for the junior members to directly discuss their findings with the attendants of the congress. This system will also give room for more accepted contributions from our junior members and hopefully an increased attention their contributions.

Please visit the website of the society and use the opportunities to apply for a Congress Travel Grant. These grants are intended for young participants from European countries who wish to attend the conference and the rules for application are clearly stated. The website should not only be visited by younger members of the Society but all members since there is ample opportunity to apply also for other grants. While you are at it, you may just as well use the time to pay your membership fee for this year via the website. Looking forward to seeing you in Prague. Jesper Swedenborg President of the Society
