A series of novel trisubstituted guanidines of general formula C4H9CONHC(NHR1)NR2 (where R1 = 2-methoxyphenyl (1–4) and phenyl (5), R2 = 2-methoxyphenyl (1), phenyl (2), 2-tolyl (3), 2-chlorophenyl (4) and 2,3-dimethylphenyl (5), and their copper(II) complexes of general formula (C4H9CONHC(NR1)NR2)2Cu were synthesized in good yield.

In this study, six new coordination polymers have been synthesized and characterized structurally by elemental analysis, IR spectra and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermal analyses (TG, DTA, DSC) techniques. Topological analyses show that complex 5 consists of rare three dimensional (3D) (4,4,5)-connected net with 4,4,5T14 topology. Complexes 1 and 3–6 exhibit intense blue fluorescent emission bands in the solid state at room temperature.

Well-defined aggregates with different morphology, dimension, and handedness were fabricated from phthalocyanine derivatives with same chiral (S)-2-methylbutoxy substituents linked at a or b position, which reveals the position of chiral substituents on the chiral transfer and expression at molecular and supramolecular level and in turn the morphology, dimension, and handedness of the selfassembled aggregates although both complexes possessing the same chiral functional group.

Four tris-isocyanide complexes [CuBr(CNR)3] were synthesized, and X-ray structures of two of them (R = 2,6-Me2C6H3, 2-Cl-6-MeC6H3) were determined. Nature of the coordination CuAC bonds and the formal triple CBN bonds in [CuBr(CNR)3] (R = 2,6-Me2C6H3) verified by AIM, NBO, and CDA analyses.

The interaction of the fac-[Re(CO)3(4,40 dinonyl-2,20 -bipyridine){4-C11py}]CF3SO3 (1c) complex with Calf Thymus DNA (CT DNA) examined by florescence quenching and molecular docking methods shows that complex 1c bind DNA through the minor groove binding mode. Similarly, complex 1c exhibits the moderate cytotoxicity and cellular uptake of cancer cell lines attributed to the lipophilic alkyl chain on bpy and pyridine ligands which facilitates the hydrophobic interaction with DNA and healthy membrane permeability.

The quadruply bridged structure Cp2Os2(l-H)4 is shown to be the lowest energy Cp2Os2H4 structure. For the other Cp2Os2Hn systems (n = 8, 6, 2) the lowest energy structures contain doubly bridged Cp2Os2(l-H)2 units. Bridging cyclopentadienyl rings are found in low-energy Cp2Os2H2 and Cp2Os2 structures. For Cp2Os2, two structures, each with a bridging l-Cp ring, are shown to lie more than 14 kcal/mol in energy below singlet and triplet unbridged isomers.

A series of mononuclear zinc(II) complexes containing 6-oxo-9-deazapurine derivatives (Ln) of the composition [Zn(Ln)2Cl2]Æ Solv was synthesized and thoroughly characterized, including a single crystal X-ray analysis. Complexes were studied for their in vitro cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines (PC3, LNCaP and A2780) and in vitro anti-inflammatory activity using the lipopolysaccharide-activated macrophage-like THP-1 cell model.

The DNA–photocleavage and DNA-binding abilities of chiral Ru(II) polypyridyl complexes were reasonably explained, and the photo–induced oxidation–reduction mechanism and singlet oxygen photosensitization mechanism were theoretically elucidated.

The synthesis and structure of [Cu(T1Et4iPrIP)(CH3OH)Cl]Cl (T1Et4iPrIP = tris(1ethyl-4-isopropyl-imidazolyl)phosphine) is reported. The copper center resides in distorted square pyramidal geometry and exhibits weak in-plane ligand field strength as evidenced by a small Ak value (131 G). TD-DFT calculations have been performed to assign the electronic transitions for this complex.

Five formamidinate-supported Mg complexes were synthesized and structurally characterized. Three complexes displayed monomeric octahedral metal centers while the metal cores in the other two compounds exhibited distorted square-pyramidal geometries. Multiple factors such as ligand properties, coordinating solvent molecules and halides together participated in governing the product conformation.

NHC+-CS2 (1) and (l-j2C:j2S-NHC+-CS) [Fe2(CO)6] (2) have been synthesized and fully characterized by EA, IR and NMR. They have been structurally determined by X-ray crystallography. Electrochemical study on 2 reveals that complex 2 can catalyze H2 production.

Three complexes were synthesized by reaction of Rh2(O2CCH3)4 with 2-picoline, 3-picoline and 4-picoline, respectively. Their catalytic activity was significantly lower than the value of Rh2(O2CCH3)4. A series of 2,6-bis(imidate)pyridine Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes had been synthesized and performed high activities and high cis1,4 selectivities towards 1,3-butadiene polymerization. The ligand environment and polymerization conditions significantly influenced the catalytic behaviors of the corresponding complexes. Addition of PPh3 to the Co(II)-based systems increased their catalytic activities and also switched the selectivity from cis-1,4 to 1,2 manner.

We report the syntheses, characterization and inhibition efficiency studies in mild steel acidic corrosion of two thiosemicarbazone derivatives and of their zinc complexes. The ligands present a good degree of activity while the two zinc complexes present diametrically opposite properties. Quantum chemical studies were carried out to rationalize this behaviour.

Four different, four-coordinated alkyl(4-methoxyphenyl)dithiophosphinic acid metal complexes were prepared. As trans-bis-[iso-propyl (4-methoxyphenyl)dithiophosphinato]nickel(II), 1 and bis-{[iso-propyl (4-methoxyphenyl)dithiophosphinato]}cobalt(II), 2 were synthesized for the first time, these compounds were also characterized spectroscopically. Starting with these four-coordinated complexes, novel, mixed (pyridino) DTPA complexes of Ni(II) and Co(II) cations were prepared (5, 6, 7, 8 and 9). The crystal structures of the four cobalt pyridino-DTPA complexes (5, 7, 8 and 9) were analyzed.

Oxidation of PtIITMP consumes 2.0 equivalents of m-CPBA and forms a new Pt-complex that X-ray analysis formulates it as [PtVI(TMP)(OH)2](m-CB)2 based on stoichiometric titration, but other spectroscopic, electrochemical studies formulate it as [(TMP)PtIV(OH)2](m-CBA)2. Finally, theoretical studies solved the contradiction and suggested +4 oxidation state for the platinum center. These studies were employed to find the correct position of hydrogen atoms and hence, the correct structure reported as [(TMP)PtIV(OH)2](m-CBA)2 corresponding to DFT results that shows Pt-oxo and dioxo species are not stable and tend to form platinum hydroxo species.

A novel zigzag penta-coordinated Mn(III) coordination polymer [MnL]n has been synthesised and structurally characterized. The experimental magnetic susceptibilities indicates the Mn(III) coordination polymer exhibits the existence of a weak antiferromagnetic coupling along the chain through the amido bridge with a spin canting that leads to a long-range antiferromagnetic order at Tc  13 K and a canting leading to a weak ferromagnetic long-range order at Tc  7 K.
