Rust-Inhibiting Coating U.S. Patent 5,3&5,&T%.Jan. 31, 1995 R.J. Bent and D.A. Blaha, assignorsto Man-Gill Chemical Co., Cleveland
A method of producing an adherent and rust-inhibiting multilayer finish on metal parts selected from the group consisting of ferrous metal, zinc, aluminum, and alloys thereof comprising immersing in an aque ous acidic zinc, lead, iron, or manganese phosphating solution; rinsing with an aque ous acidic solution containing an underpaint corrosion inhibitor; immersing the phosphate-coated metal parts contained on a rack or in a rotatable porous barrel in an aqueous dispersion, emulsion, or solution of a thermosetting resin and passing through an electric current thereby elec trodepositing resin particles on the phos phate-coated parts by electrophoresis to form a first resin film; contacting the elec-
trophoretically coated parts with an aqueous composition prior to curing to form a second film of the aqueous composi tion over the first film as a seal coat; curing the films by subjecting to an elevated temperature; and contacting the cured resin-coated parts with oil, oil containing a corrosion inhibitor, or a corrosion inhibitor without oil to form a top seal coat.
Process for Producing a GravelImpact-Resistant Finish U.S.Patent 5,385,&6. Jan. 31, 1995 KJ? CM&r et al., assipors to Herbe& GmbH, Wuppertal, Germany
A process for producing a gravel-im pact-resistant multicoat finish on electri tally conductive substrates comprising ap plying a primer by cathodic electrodeposi tion; subsequently applying over the ap plied primer, either wet-on-wet, or after flashing-off or after stoving, a primer- surfacer coat of an aqueous paste filler containing at least one curable water- dilutable binder cured at a temperature not greater than 18o’C; and applying over the applied primer-surfacer coat at least one base coat and at least one finishing coat, and wherein
the aqueous paste filler has a high-solid value of not less than 75% by weight.
Electroform Separation U.S.Patenr5,385,660. Jan. 37, 1995
WG. Herbert ef a/., assignorsto Xerox Corp., Stamford, Conn. A method for parting an electrodeposited article comprised of a first surface region and a second surface region from a man drel, wherein the method comprises posi tioning the article and the mandrel in a metal deposition solution; forming a plural ity of metal dendrites on the second surface region, wherein the first surface region is free of metal dendrites; and gripping a portion of the second surface region, thereby contacting the metal dendrites, while separating the article and the man drel.
