Lacrimedics, Inc., has introduced a 0.7-mm shaft diameter plug to its line of nondissolvable Herrick Lacrimal Plugs. The 0.7-mm plug provides long-term treatment of dry eye, improved contact lens comfort, enhanced efficacy of topical ocular medications (including eye drops), and the prevention of dry-eye complications after an operation. The plug features a 0.3-mm starter tip to facilitate inser­ tion. The 0.7-mm plug can be purchased as part of the Lacrimal Occulsion Starter Kit, which contains equipment necessary for lacrimal occlusion with lacrimal plugs.

The knives, with a rounded nose and shorter length, are designed to provide exact incision widths for popular intraocular lenses, while protecting the iris and capsule from being accidentally cut as the knife enters the anterior chamber.

Univision includes a 22-mm lens that provides a microscopic system when attached to the patient's single vision spectacles. An adhesive ring system allows the practitioner to position the lens temporarily at first and then permanently.

Nikon, Inc., has introduced the SMZ-10A zoom stereo microscope, which includes a 6.5 X zoom ratio and modular construction for custom configuration according to the user's need. The microscope may be used in biomédical research environ­ ments and laboratories. It can also be fitted for use in photography or video. The SMZ-10A provides sharp and bright unreversed images. The zoom range is from 0.75 X to 4.9 X, and magnification ranges up to X294- Its design contains built-in click stops that allow the operator to set the desired magnification automatically. Visitée Company has intro­ duced two mini-size drapes for ophthalmic procedures. Their small size, 41 X 41 cm (16 X 16 in), makes them ideal for radial keratotomy and ophthalmic procedures. The 1095 Visi-Drape Mini Incise Drape and the 1096 Visi-Drape Mini Aperture Drape are made of translucent, glare-resistant plastic that allows the surgeon to view the patient throughout the procedure. They can be used on the left or right eye. The 1095 has a translucent, hypoallergenic incise area of 9 X 11.5 cm (3Vi X 4r/i in). The 1096 has a precut oval aperture area of 5 X 7.5 cm ( 2 x 3 in). The drapes help to maintain a sterile area around the surgical site, reducing the possibility of infection. Both products are single and sterile packed in a Tyvek pouch for aseptic transfer. Packaged 10 per box.
