SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS

• Visitec Company, 7575 Commerce Court, Sarasota, FLA 34243; telephone: (800) 237-2174 or (940 359-9883; fax: (800) 705-2525 Visitec Company introduces the 5216 LASIK Flap Irrigator (Vidaurri), which features two parallel .50 x 13-mm tip extensions angled 45 degrees and placed 1 mm apart. Each extension possesses four ports, two inside and two outside. The universal cannula simultaneously irrigates both sides of the LASIK flap, washes out the stromal bed, and enables flap repositioning.

Visitec Company also announces the extension of the range of its portable Visitrec Vitrectomy System with the addition of the 5215 Visitrec Vitreous Biopsy Probe 00sephberg). The new probe provides one-step paracentesis, cutting, and aspiration with a single instrument. The 20-g guillotine cutting probe tapers to 23 gat 13.5 mm from the tip, providing a guide to determine how far the probe has been inserted. The MVR tip is .75 mm, and the aspiration port is .5 mm, The aspiration port is aligned with the blade edge for atraumatic insertion. The aspiration tube of the hub indicates the orientation of both the aspiration port and the blade edge. No suturing is required because the MVR tip makes a small sclerotomy. The cutter automatically stops in the open position for atraumatic removal through the sclerotomy. Visitec Company also presents two new entries to its line of EdgeAhead Ophthalmic Surgical Knives series. The 1140 EdgeAhead IOL Knife 3.5 mm straight and 1141 EdgeAhead IOL Knife 3.5 mm angled satisfy the surgeon's needs for a smaller IOL incision. All EdgeAhead Knives feature a precise, sharp cutting edge for a clean incision and reduced tissue distortion and have a nonglare matte finish to minimize reflection from microscope light.

DIAGNOSTIC INSTRUMENTS

• Keeler Instruments Inc, 456 Parkway, Broomall, PA 19008; telephone: (800) 523-5620 or (610) 353-4350; fax: 610 353-7814 Keeler announces that the diffuser on the Keeler Vantage Indirect Ophthalmoscope is now nearly three times brighter. The diffuser's new material provides this improvement without compromising the Keeler Van tage's ability to provide up to 50% enlargement of the illuminated field. The diffuser was engineered to allow the user a significantly grosser margin of error during the most difficult retinal exams. It expands the illuminated field up to 50%, even in the peripherary of undilated eyes, greatly relaxing the normally critical alignment between the headset, condensing lens, and pupil in order to achieve a full lens image. This more forgiving alignment ensures greater ease in maintaining a view under situations that are often compromised, such as when examining noncompliant patients or children; when viewing through undilated eyes; and when viewing the periphary of both dilated and undilated eyes. The new diffuser is an integrated feature on the Keeler Vantage and can be used with the yellow safety, red-free, and cobalt blue filters.
