The focus of this book is to help the practi tioner understand the physiologic func tions of the stomatognathic system as a fu n c tio n a l en tity . The first section, “Function and dysfunction,” describes the basic morphologic, physiologic, and pathologic problems encountered, and how the temporomandibular joint, man dibular movement, and occlusion relate to these problems. Diagnostic tests and decisions are described in detail in the second section. Rehabilitation, the third section, offers many techniques of treat ment for the problems. These include splints, corrective orthodontic treatment, prosthetic treatment, surgery, biofeed back, exercise, drugs, physiotherapy, electrogalvanic stim ulation, and au togenous training. A final chapter pre sents five case reports. Most chapters conclude with a list of references for further reading; the book is generously il lustrated with black and white and some color illustrations.

This is a ready reference manual for oc clusal waxing that includes groove and ridge patterns, location of occlusal con tacts, paths of opposing incisal tables or cusp tips in excursions, the location and size of proximal contacts, and axial con tours. It is not a textbook of morphology, but is instead concerned with the func tion and configuration of occlusing sur faces of cast restorations. Although pat terns are based on natural form, they are v stylized interpretations rather than exact duplications of any specific teeth. There are several hundred line drawings, some with color added, to present the princi ples and techniques.

Most of this classic textbook has been re w ritten, several chapters have been added, and the text expanded to provide exhaustive coverage of past and present basic and clinical developments in peri odontics and related fields. Many new il lustrations are included, some of which are in color, and the lists of references at the end of each chapter have been exten sively updated and expanded.
