RADIATION THERAPY IN GERMINAL TUMORS OF THE TESTIS M.A. Batata,' F.C.H Chu,' A. Unal,I B.S. Hilaris,I R. Golbey,* and W.F. Whitmore, Jr.3 Department of Radiation Thesapy,' Solid Tumor Service, Department of Medicige, and Urologic Service Department of Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York 10021
Between 1949 and 1974, 928 patients with testicular germ cell tumors were treated mainly at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Histologic types on orchiectomy were pure seminoma in 291 patients, embryonal carcinoma or teracarcinoma with (124) or without (493) seminoma in 617 patients, and Clinical features, initial investigations, pure choriocarcinoma in 20 patients. Radiation surgical pathologic findings and tumor stage, will be presented. therapy and/or other modalities, survival results and recurrence patterns will be discussed in pure seminoma vs. the other tumors alone or with seminoma, in order to determine the factors associated with success or failure of the treatment in each category of tumors.

PERFLUORINATED HYDROCARBON IN COMBINATION WITH RADIATION AGAINST P388 LEUKEMIA __ IN -I_ VIVO Richard Belgrad, M.D., Robert Howells, M.S., Jerry Hirsch, Ph.D. Galen Wampler, M.D., Teisa An, M.D., and Tapan Hazra, M.D.
Departments of Radiology, Medicine and Academic Pathology, Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA 23298 Perfluorinated hydrocarbon compounds are a unique group which possess physical properties suggesting possible usefulness in man. Their low surface tension allows free flow into tiny folds and crevices, a characteristic which lends itself to dispersion along peritoneal surfaces affected by tumor. These substa ces are also BDF female mice injected intraperitoneally with 10! P388 mouse oxygen solvents. leukemia cells were siudied following treatment with pre-oxygenated compound 1913; and increasing doses of radiation. Preliminary results suggest increased life Irradiated control animals treated with PFHC span which is dose dependent. failed to demonstrate increased life span , eliminating the possibility of radioRadioenhancementathigher sub-lethal doses of whole body protective effect. radiation cannot be excluded in this tumor system.
