PlastiComp unveils new options PLASTICOMP LLC, of Winona, Minnesota, USA, unveiled two commercial developments for its Pushtrusion™ direct in-line compounding technology at the NPE 2006 tradeshow in Chicago in June. Engel Machinery, of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, is making the Pushtrusion technology available as an option on its Combi series injection moulding machine, while MGS Mfg Group, of Germantown, Wisconsin, USA, has developed a portable Pushtrusion unit which can be retrofitted to an installed injection
moulding machine to add versatility to an existing asset. Engel’s Combi machines are based upon a 300 ton press and may include the added advantage of injection compression. The Engel ‘plug and play’ integration of Pushtrusion technology offers moulders the flexibility to choose between pre-compounded pellets and direct in-line compounding on the same machine. MGS’ portable Pushtrusion compounding units may be designed to
include a range of shot sizes from 3-160 ounces. Pushtrusion technology is capable of producing either long or short fibre reinforced compounds. The equipment can be retrofitted to injection moulding machines, profile extrusion processes, and as a material delivery device for compression moulding. (A feature about Pushtrusion technology was published in the January 2006 issue of Reinforced Plastics.) PlastiComp; tel: +1-507-454-4334; www.plasticomp.com
Release coating improves adhesion HURON Technologies, of Leslie, Michigan, USA, says that its Release Coating 7137 mould release is effective in applications that combine a composite with a fabric material in a permanent structure. For example, it can be used for
the release of polyurea composites with fibreglass for automotive and truck interior components. Huron claims 7137 is most useful in cases where adhesion between a composite and a fabric is critical to product perfor-
mance. Benefits are said to include superior adhesion quality, up to 450°F mould temperature, low maintenance, low build-up, and water base. Huron Technologies; www.hurontech.com
