Van Vloten BV and the Verder Group of Belgium have expanded their product lines with Kason circular screen separators, centrifugal sifters and dewatering sieves. Known as Vibroscreen, ‘Flo-Thru’ and ‘Blo-Thru! clrcular screen separators, these units are designed for solids/ solids separation. The Vibroscreen vibratory separator has proven itself well suited for classl@ing as well as scalping and dewatering. Centri-Sifter centrifugal sifters provide high capacity scalping of powders and even certain slurries. These units are suited to use in ambient pressure and limited pressurized/vacuum applications. ‘Cross-flo’ dewatering sieves rely on specially designed profile wire screens and extra long acceleration ramps to provide extraordinarily high dewaterlng rates.

In a recent significant change of strategy Total Filtration Limited and Total Separation Limited have been seeking distributors for their range of filtration products. The companies have formally announced the first phase of distributors (called Liquid Solution Centers) they are: For The Netherlands, Lubrafilt bv, Rotterdam, tel: + 31 10 412 54 39, fax: +31 10 413 34 97 For Belgium & Luxembourg, sa Auximeca Filters nv, Brussels, tel: +32 3 2194042, fax: +32 3 2196205 For France, Lechler France Paris, tel: + 33 43 79 06 56, fax: + 33 43 79 16 48

Unlike most other dewatering sieves, the ‘Cross-flo’ Sieve uses a screen that tilts at various angles to achieve optimum dewatering rates. All of the units are available in a variety of sizes to meet a broad range of process operation needs. In addition to standard designs, @son is able to modl@ these separators for special applications. Kason customers are said to have reported that they believe the company’s separators, siRers and sieves are reliable and a cost effective investment. tegrated gasification, combined cycle plants because it can remove sulphur from hot coal gas, eliminating the need to cool and then reheat the gas. Moreover, the researchers have developed a Direct Sulphur Recovery Process, which can reclaim saleable, elemental sulphur from the sorbent. Laboratory tests indicate that the sorbent is attrition resistant. Sorbent-replacement cost is estimated to be less than 0.05 kW of electricity. Removingsulphurfromhot coal gas Engineers at Research Trlangle Institute and the US Department of Energy’s Morgantown Energy Technology Centre have developed a sorbent that can remove up to 99% of the sulphur from hot coal-gas for coal-fired power plants. Fluidizable since titante (FZ’Q, which the RTIMETC tam recently patented increases a plant’s thermal efficiency by 15 %. With currently available technology, coal gas must be cooled to remove sulphur and then reheat to make electricity. FZT has the potential to increase the efficiency of in-

Airmaster wins Egyptianfilter con&act Airmaster Engineering has completed an order to supply 18 of its Auto ‘M’ filters to a pharmaceutical corn pany in Egypt. Theywill be used in a new plant operated by the Chemical Industries Development company (CID) at Assuit in upper Egypt. The order for the filters, eleven with 15 sq metres of filter material and seven with 25 sq metres, was obtained through Airmaster Engineering’s Egyptian agent, EMS Engineering and Marketing Services. The company has been

supplying the Auto ‘M’ range of intermittent filters to various pharmaceutical companies in Egypt through their local agent for a number of years; the order from CID is said to be the biggest Alrmaster has received. The mechanically cleaned Auto ‘M’ series is considered to be a suitable package filter unit for non-continuous applications involving low dust concentrations. Installationof sprayshop at machinetool company Air Plants Ltd (APL) has recently equipped the Unislide Grinding Company of Nuneaton, UK, with a new spray room. APL installed one of its range of dryback spray rooms measuring 3 m by 5 m in just three days. An APL axial flow fan at the rear of the unit rated at 2100 l/s (4500 cfm) results in five air changes per minute in the spray room and passes contaminated air through two rows of disposable paper pleated filters. Sticky paint particles adhere to the filter, allowing cleaned

air to be discharged into the rear chamber before exhaust via a weatherproof cowl above the roof. To overcome the heat loss due to extraction APL fitted a gas fired warm air heater, with thermostatic control, supplied by sister company AP Heating. It takes supply air entirely from the exterior to avoid creating heat loss problems elsewhere in the plant. Air Plants L&i, 295 Aykstone Road, Leimster LE27 7PB, UK Tel: + 44 533 833581. June1994
