There is considerable agreement that is not 100% efficient. Therefore attempts recovery by repeating the flushing after cows (n=l6) .

non-surgical embryo recovery were made to enhance embryo 24h in superovulated donor

Group A (n=B): Two superovulatory treatments were adopted. Holland) on D9, Group B (n=8): 2000 IU PMSG/cow (Folligon, Intervet, Vetrepharm, Canada) on 09-012 Total dose 35 mg FSH/cow. (Folltropin, of observed estrus cycle. 48h after superovulatory treatment 25 mg India) was administered and each PGF2 alpha/cow (Dinofertin, Alved, cow was inseminated 3 times at 12h interval upon detection of heat. On D6 after estimating the number of corpora lutea by rectal palpation cows were flushed individually. The flushing was performed with an Germany) using modified Dulbecco’s PBS 18G Rusch catheter (Minitub, USA) with 2% FCS as flushing medium. The volume of the (Sigma, effluent was reduced by syphoning through a 50~ plankton sieve mounted over a disposable syringe. The embryo containing medium was inspected under a zoom stereomicroscope (2ZB, iiikon. Japan), embryos were located, transferred to a holding dish and graded. Embryos of freezable grade were frozen in a programmable embryo freezer (L856, Let Instruments, Australia). The same procedures were repeated exactly 24h later for all donor cows. Thirty two embryos from treatment group A and 38 from group B were recovered in the first attempt while 15 and 17 from these two groups, respectively, were recovered in the repeat flushing. Repeat flushing significant (PCO.01, analysis of recovery was variance, factorial design). The recovery enhancement on total embryos recovered was 31.9 and 30.9% respectively for PMSG and FSH treated cows. The data suggest that RFER is a useful method for enhancing embryo recovery in crossbred donor cows. The positive effect of repeat flushing is possibly due to the ‘whirlpool effect’ of the flushing medium (first flush) at utero-tubal junction resulting in the escape of few embryos back into the oviduct, some of which are recovered 24h later in the repeat flushing.
