Response to Letter by D. F. Specht The primary purpose of this response is to express regret for the close similarity between Specht ( 1991) and our later paper (Schisler & Hartmann, 1992). If we had been aware of the existence of Specht ( 1991 ), we would have definitely referred to this work and even changed the content of our article (Schieler & Hartmann, 1992). Secondary, we wish to avoid any suspicion of plagiarism from our side. The original manuscript (Schieler & Hartmann, 1992) was, in August 1991, sent to former editor-in-chief of Neural Networks, Prof. Teuvo Kohonen in Helsinki, Finland. Dr. Donald Specht's work was published in IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks in November 1991, which proves the independence of our rediscovery. Two or more independent discoveries of a common result emphasizes its significance, and we agree with Dr. Specht, that the General Regression Neural Network based on Parzen Window Density Estimates is a

very promising method, allowing further developments in a variety of directions. Our present researches are concerned with the explorations of such developments, and we hope to be able to contribute originally in the near future.
