Advent International acquires synthetic resins division of Cytec Industries Advent International plans to acquire the synthetic resins business of US company Cytec Industries Inc for $1.15 bn. Advent and Cytec estimate the global market for synthetic resins at around $30 bn/y. The Surface Specialties Division of Cytec is a leading manufacturer of synthetic resins worldwide. The European headquarters of Cytec are located in Brussels in Belgium. The business activities cover Europe, the US and Asia. The company achieved a turnover of ca $1.6 bn in 2011 and develops, manufactures and distributes synthetic resins which find applications in the manufacture of paints, coatings and printing inks. The product range also includes cross-linking agents and additives. The transaction remains subject to approval by relevant authorities and is scheduled for completion in 1Q 2013. After the completion of the transaction the companies will expand the market position and increase the market penetration in emerging countries in Asia. Sachtleben to discuss particle functionalization for coatings at the European Coatings Show Sachtleben focuses on the silanization of barium sulfate and titanium dioxide in the exhibitor lecture at the 2013 European Coatings Show in Nuremberg, German, on 19-21 Mar 2013. The potential of this new generation of particles was investigated using various powder and liquid coating systems. It has already been shown that the water resistance of powder coatings can be improved by using functionalized barium sulfate. This new generation of barium sulfate can also have a positive influence on important processing properties of coatings such as levelling, settling and sagging. The A Schulman range includes Polybatch masterbatches for agricultural yields, including

These solutions are green and brown coloured masterbatches that allow visually unobtrusive mulch films to be used in environmentally sensitive areas as alternatives to black or white mulch films. The range also includes special powders for enhanced durability and cleanliness, namely Cotene, a new thermoplastic coating powder from ICO Polymers, an A Schulman division. Cotene is a coating option that protects metals against corrosion and also allows graffiti to be removed simply by using a rag and a standard household cleanser. Cotene also protects metal parts such as hardware, grilles, fences, lamp posts, benches and playground equipment from rust and paint stains. A Schulman has also developed, in cooperation with DSM, Icorene 7620 Fuel Lock, a clean fuel-tank solution that prevents environment contamination from fuels. Cytec announces price increases on its powder coating resins product range in the Americas Cytec Industries Inc has announced to its customers a price increase for its entire range of powder coating resins sold in the Americas. The price of all products in the range will be increased by $0.05/lb to $0.07/lb. The adjustment will be effective for all shipments as of 15 Oct 2012 or as contract terms permit and is in addition to any previously announced price adjustment.
