am Unger was born in Krosno, Poland. After surviving the Holocaust, he entered Italy in 1945 and lived for 5 years in displaced persons camps. He immigrated to the United States and attended Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and Dental School at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon graduation, he received a recognition plaque from the International College of Dentists. After graduation, Sam settled in Brooklyn, NY. He joined Alpha Omega as a student and later became a member of the Brooklyn Alumni Chapter. He served as its president and regent of Regency III. Sam was appointed to numerous committees and was a delegate to conventions, Foundation Member at Large, and the Deputy Marshal to the

1991 ‘‘Only in New York’’ convention. He served as chair of the Memorial Committee and had two consecutive 3-year terms as International Director-at-Large. In 1998, Sam was honored with the Presidential Citation. After an absence of student chapters for several years at New York and Columbia Universities, Sam reorganized Iota Chapter at New York University in 2006 and Eta Chapter at Columbia University in 2007. Sam served for 3 years as president of the New York area alumni association of Case Western Reserve University and 12 years as a member of the Board of Temple Hillel in Brooklyn, NY, where he was a contributing writer to the Temple’s newsletter. Sam retired from his private practice in 2008. He lives with his wife Isabelle in Jackson, NJ. They have a daughter, Susan, a son-in-law, Eli, a grandson, Erik, his wife, Tammy, and a great-grandson named Ari.
