FOCUS SCR systems for vehicles Selective catalytic reduction, wherein NOx in combustion gases is reacted with ammonia over a catalyst to give elemental nitrogen, is well established for power stations but less so for vehicles. The ammonia is generated from an aqueous solution of urea. Systems for use with diesel engines usually include particulate filters, and the point of injection of the ammonia can precede or follow the filter. The various design options for use with lean-burn internal combustion engines, both gasoline and diesel, are discussed in this patent.
