Serial Printer

This unit is a 60 character per second multi-copy Serial Printer, each character being specially printed as it is received, no

buffer storage being used. The printing element is cylindrical, measuring l in. long × kin. diameter. It is positioned to print any one of its 64 characters by revolving and moving up and down as it travels across the page and is actuated magnetically. A full printed line is the standard width of 120 characters, and the carriage may be set to return to any position along the printed line providing unlimited control of the printed format. The printer accepts standard computer fanfold, six-part pin-fed paper in various sizes up to 15 in. wide, and will print out computer or communications data at speeds up to 60 characters per second. The unit will be available in limited quantities towards the end of this year and production quantities for delivery to U.K. and Europe are expected by the middle of 1969.

Magnetic Tape Input for Plotters

Computer Instrumentation Ltd., have introduced a magnetic tape input system for models in their drum type or flat-bed automatic drawing machines range, which produce graphical output such as drawings, charts, graphs, etc. These are drawn either on plain or graph paper, with ink pens or ball point pens, in black or varying colours,

in fine or thick lines. The system is called the 5000 Series. One feature is the elimination of redundant information on tape when operating plotters at 600 increments per second from 9-track 800 b.p.i, tapes. Two bytes on tape execute any plotting command in the X, Y or XY directions of movement of Incremental Plotters. The system may be obtained for either 7 or 9-track computer output. In either case, the tape deck is mounted on a cabinet matching the latest Incremental Plotter styling. All the controls are accessible on the top of the desk-height console and tapes are top loaded. This new design conforms to concepts applied in the recently announced 6000 Series Incremental Plotters; functional controls for the operator and easy access to the electronics for the maintenance engineer. The units are also similar in appearance.
