Sixtg male SHR at 4 weeks of age were divided randomly into 4 groups. The semisyntheticdiets were supplementedwith 14 % by weight (I 30 % of energy) of differentvegetablefats: sunfloweroil, evening primrose oil, linseed oil end palm kernel ~BatbieTffe fatty acid compositionof the fats can be seen from . On the other hand, HDL cholesterolwas markedly increasedafter the EPO-rich diet. Total cholesterolremainedunchanged in all dietary groups. The data presented confirm our revious findings that serun and renal lipids (7,10) are not ch e3 after an LA-rich diet. zc) "fx1e lowering of triglycerides only deoreasedserum triglycerides. by m-3 fatty acids has recently been reviewed (11). A comparisonof various polyunsaturatedfats revealed that and KDL choleEPO had the most renouncedtriglyceride-lowering sterol-raisingefBects. EPO was also most potent in lowering blood reasure in SER (5). Whether this efficacy is connectedwith the %igh percentageof LA and $-linolenicacid of EPO (12) remains to be studied in detail. Nevertheless, from the preventivepoint of view it seems of interestthat blood pressure, serum triglycegs and HDL cholesterolcan most effectivelybe influencedby .
