The 5th IFAC/IFBRS Conference on Dynamic Modelling and Control of National Economies, jointly sponsored by the International Federation of Automatic Control and International Federation of Operations Research Societies, will be held in Budapest, Hungary, June 17-20, 1986. The International Program Committee is co-chaired by Prof. Edward (FRG) and Prof. Bela Martos (H), the National Organizing Committee is chaired by Prof. Margit Ziermann (H). Papers are solicited on theoretical, applicational, empirical and computational aspects of dynamic economic modelling and systems control theory on global, regional, national or sectoral level. The Study Group on Computers in Survey Analysis (SGCSA) will award a prize of E250 for the best paper to appear during 1984 on any topic relating to the use of computers in surveys or statistical analysis. To qualify, an entry must be a written paper which has been published or presented at a conference at some time in 1954. Entries will be accepted from now until 31st Jarxary 1985, when a panel of judges, including members independent of SGCSA will choose the winning paper. Full details of the rules and procedure for entry can be obtained from Te:i-y Orchard, Secretary of SCCSA, Central Statistical Office, Room 55A/2, Government Offices, Great George Street, London SWlP 3AQ. The Study Group was formed in 1971 and has formal links with the British Computer Society, the Market Research Society and the Royal Statistical Society. Its activities include regular conferences, the next of which is planned for November 1984 on ‘New Ways of Looking at Data’. The Group produces a twice-yearly newsletter, and the 5th edition of its Register of Software for Statistical and Survey Analysis, listing over 100 packages, was published recently.

1. A prize of &250 will be awarded for the best paper on the use of computers in survey or statistical processing published in English during the calendar year 1984. 2. Papers presented at conferences or meetings will also be eligible if a full text was availc;ble at the conference or within a volume of proceedings. 3. Reports published within organizations for private circulation may be considered eligible at the discretion of the judges. 4. Papers must be sent by the author(s) to the Secretary of the SGCSA (see above) with a covering letter stating that it is being submitted for the prize, and giving full details of publication. 5. A panel of three judges will be set up by the Committee of the SGCSA and will include one member of the Committee. Members of the panel and members of the Committee will not be eligible for the prize. 6. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into by them or the SGCSA Committee. 7. All entries must be received by the Secretary of the SGCSA before 5pm on Thursday 3i January 1985. The winner will be announced by the end of March 1985.
