Indian e n g i n e repairs to b o o s t gasket sales D e m a n d in India for r e p l a c e m e n t internal engine parts, including gaskets, is expected to show rapid growth over the n e x t few years, according to a recent m a r k e t r e s e a r c h study. The Indian Automotive Internal Engine Parts Market report, from Frost & Sullivan, predicts an a n n u a l growth rate of 16% in the internal p a r t s m a r k e t during the next six years. The m a r k e t in India generated revenues of US$423 million in 1997, a n d it is forecast t h a t by 2004 the m a r k e t will be worth a m a s s i v e US$1.2 billion. M a n u f a c t u r e r s are expected to increase their production capacities by u p to 55% by 2000. The rapid increase in growth is driven b y increased d e m a n d for automotive vehicles in the early and mid1980s. Since then, the vehicle population in India h a s grown so quickly, t h a t m o r e vehicles will now need r e p l a c e m e n t parts.
