The m a r k e t in India generated revenues of US$423 million in 1997, a n d it is forecast t h a t by 2004 the m a r k e t will be worth a m a s s i v e US$1.2 billion. M a n u f a c t u r e r s are expected to increase their production capacities by u p to 55% by 2000. The rapid increase in growth is driven b y increased d e m a n d for automotive vehicles in the early and mid1980s. Since then, the vehicle population in India h a s grown so quickly, t h a t m o r e vehicles will now need r e p l a c e m e n t parts.
