ON THE SCIENTIFIC

RADIOACTIVE

U.S.A.

The Sixth International Symposium on the Scientific Basis for Radioactive Waste Management will be sponsored by the Materials Research Society with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Topics will include: Treatment and disposal of low level and other non-high level radioactive waste, Waste-near field interactions, Waste form processes and properties, Methodology and standards for waste management, Canister/container lifetime and compatibility backfill barriers, In-situ migration, Characterization and modeling of fractured rock, Chemistry of waste elements in the geologic environment, Performance assessment of nuclear waste management, Natural analogues for radwaste studies, Related geologic topics (predictive geology; others). Papers are solicited in these and other appropriate areas. Prospective authors are requested to provide the symposium chairman with an original and one copy of a ‘review summary’ on or before June 4, I982 for peer review. Selection of those to be presented will be made on the basis of scientific and technical content with preference given to new and unpublished work. The summaries can be up to two pages in length. Brookins Program Chairman (Radwaste Symposium) Department of Geology University of New Mexico Albuquerque NM 87131, U.S.A. (Telephone Nos. 505-277-23 10 or 505-277-4204). Invited speakers from the U.S.A. and many other countries will present scientific and management overviews on various aspects of radwaste management; there will be about tweleve invited presentations at the symposium. Guidelines for publication of manuscripts will be provided at the time authors are advised of acceptance of their Abstracts. The final manuscript length will be eight pages (camera ready format; materials to be provided by Elsevier - North Holland, NY).
