he names of the candidates for the 2016 national election appear on the ballot to the right. Officers, members of the Board of Directors, and members of the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee (NLDC) will be elected by electronic ballot by members in good standing with voting rights as defined in Article III of AORN’s bylaws. Voting opens on March 7, 2016, and closes at midnight on April 5, 2016. Members can log in to the voting system at http://www.aorn.org/vote from any computer with Internet access by using their AORN username and password. The voting results will be announced at the end of the last session of the 2nd House of Delegates at the Congress portion of the AORN Surgical Conference & Expo 2016. Each year, the NLDC reviews nominations for the Board of Directors, national officers, and the NLDC to assess the candidates’ qualifications for the position they are seeking. It is the responsibility of the NLDC to select the bestqualified candidates for the positions and to prepare and present a slate of candidates for all elected positions. In addition, Article VII, Section 2(C) of the AORN bylaws allows nominations to the ballot by petition for all elected positions immediately after the NLDC presents its slate of candidates but no more than 45 days before the commencement of voting (for 2016, the deadline is January 22, 2016). To be placed on the final ballot, candidates must support AORN’s mission, vision, and values and meet the eligibility requirements for the position set forth in the bylaws. Because of publishing deadlines, only candidates on the ballot by September 30, 2015, are included in this issue of the AORN Journal. The final ballot and candidate information will be provided on the AORN web site and in AORN publications before Congress. The Candidates’ Forum will be held at the AORN Surgical Conference & Expo 2016 on Saturday, April 2, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. All candidates on the final ballot will be given an opportunity to present. The presentations will be recorded and posted on the AORN web site.
