Metallic gasket for exhaust system with integrated deflector Applicant: Renault, France This invention relates to a gasket for the exhaust of a motor vehicle. The gasket comprises a flat joint surface and a deflector that projects out on either side of the joint surface. The invention can be used, for example, to prevent fires using a simple means and involving a minimum number of modifications to the production of the exhaust system. Patent number: WO 2004/053306 Inventor: F. Everard Publication date: 24 June 2004
Example of the exhaust gasket with external deflector plate, as discussed in WO 2004/053306.
Mechanical seal assembly with metal bellows Applicant: Burgmann Dichtungswerke GmbH, Germany This patent describes a metal bellows mechanical seal assembly. The assembly comprises a first spring bellows (13) that is fitted at one end to the stationary seal face and, at the other end, to an annular divider element (12). This divider ring is mounted in a manner that enables it to move axially. A second bellows (14) is connected at one end to the divider element, and at the other
end to the seal housing. The divider element can move if subjected to an axial frictional force. This axial frictional force is at least equal to a designated maximum operating vibratory force. Vibrations are prevented from being transferred to the second spring bellows, so that only the first spring bellows is subjected to vibratory stresses. Patent number: WO 2004/053364 Inventors: G. Lederer et al. Publication date: 24 June 2004
Metal bellows mechanical seal assembly fitted with a frictional divider element to restrict vibrations of the bellows, from WO 2004/ 053364.
Prosthetic limb socket liner with resilient seal Applicants: Ossur HF, Iceland and Ossur North America Inc, USA This patent describes a suspension liner sleeve that provides an interface between a residual limb and a hard prosthetic socket. It includes a resilient seal element extending around the outer periphery, to enhance the sealing between the sleeve and the interior of a prosthetic socket. This provides both sealing and retention benefits. Patent number: WO 2004/060136 Inventor: E.S. Egilsson Publication date: 22 July 2004 This prosthetic joint with a liner seal provides improved sealing and retention, from WO 2004/ 060136.
Constant seating stress gasket system Applicant: Jjenco Inc, USA This patent is designed to overcome a number of the potential problems associated with gasket assembly, including flange rotation and achieving the correct gasket stress. A carrier ring (20) is fitted between flange faces (18). The carrier ring is manufactured from a material, such as stainless steel, which is compatible with both the process fluid to be sealed and the compression forces to be exerted by the flange faces. Each face of the carrier ring has a sealing material (22), such as a gasket. The sealing material is placed within a groove (24) on each face of the carrier ring aligned to match with the sealing surface of the flanges (10A, 10B). The region of the carrier ring between the central bore (26) and the groove forms an inner compression stop (30), against which the flange face (18) will rest on compression. Outside the seal
groove is an outer compression stop (32). The outer compression stop has a shoulder profile, which may be square, angled or another desired configuration, depending on the rotation characteristics of the flanges. Beyond the outer compression stop the thickness of the carrier ring (20) is reduced to permit the flange face to protrude below a line parallel to the carrier ring and intersecting the top of the outer compression stop. On the outer periphery of the carrier ring there are a series of visual compression indicators (40). These are intended to provide visual confirmation of the correct compression of the joint. The compression indicators extend beyond the outside diameter of the flange, for convenient visual indication of the compression. Patent number: WO 2004/059180 Inventor: J.M. Jenco Publication date: 15 July 2004
Soft surface mount technology compatible EMI gasket Applicant: Gore Enterprise Holdings, USA This patent describes an electromagnetic interference (EMI) gasket formed of a hollow, conductive material that is mechanically fastened to an electrically conductive metal support layer. The assembly can be installed using standard high-speed SMT pick-and-place equipment. The gasket is soft and

compatible with SMT installation. The gasket material has a compression hole, and the support layer has a crimp feature that penetrates the compression hole, thereby mechanically affixing the gasket and support layer. Patent number: WO 2004/054344 Inventors: B.E. Reis and W.F. Candy Publication date: 24 June 2004
Flange gasket assembly from WO 2004/059180, showing the carrier ring that is designed to prevent flange rotation and maintain constant gasket stress.
