New Mercoid pump Spence introduces digitally actuated control valve series controller with alternation Spence Engineering Company has developed the DigiBoss Cage Guided Control Valve with digital electronic actuator. The DigiBoss is designed for modulating control and on/off light industrial, commercial, liquid, HVAC and steam applications and is also suitable for

OEM packaged systems such as for example heat exchangers, water purification systems and vaporisers. The DigiBoss’ electric actuator operates with analogue signals 4-20mA, 0-10 VDC or Profibus DP and is mounted on a high-capacity, hung cage designed control valve. The digital actuator’s high-thrust, stall-proof motor provides positive positioning, prevents burnout and permits shutoff up to 750 psi. Digital Actuator Control (DAC) allows automatic adaptation to valve stroke, characteristic adaptation and manual operation with input keys. The DigiBoss is available from 2 inches to 8 inches, for pressures to 1550 PSIG and temperatures to 800°F, with cast iron, carbon steel or chrome moly bodies and NPT, RF and DIN flanged connections.
The Mercoid division of Dwyer Instruments Inc has developed a new Series MPC Junior Pump Controller (MPC Jr). The Series MPC Jr Pump Controller provides one or two pump control with built-in alternation; process input retransmission; high and low alarm contacts in a standard 1/4 DIN package. Units feature additional analogue outputs that can be used with external pump run-time meters, the company says. Many features are combined into the Series MPC Jr, reportedly eliminating many components in pump control systems. The Process indication in any units, pump run indication lights, and alarm indication lights are all part of
the MPC Jr and the controller is designed for use with almost any style level transmitter such as Mercoid’s Series PBLT or SBLT Submersible Level Transmitters. It includes an integral 24 VDC transmitter power supply and the front face is weatherproof for outdoor mounting.

Transducers for aerospace hydraulic pumps and motors PCB Piezotronics, Inc has introduced rotating torque transducers which utilize noncontact, rotary transformers for sending excitation voltage to, and receiving measurement signals from, the strain gage instrumented rotating sensor element, the company says, adding that the rotary transformer design eliminates the need for replacing worn brushes, as is the case with conventional slip ring type rotating torque sensors.

The units are suitable for use in torque studies on cantilevered aerospace hydraulic motors and pumps, because of their flange and splined shaft design, which conforms to AND 10262 & 20002, PCB Piezotronics says. Other applications include dynamometers for combustion engines, drive shafts, transmissions, fans, and electric motors. As well as the torque output signal, an optional pickup provides an output proportional to speed and an optional K type thermal couple to monitor internal bearing temperature. The units feature high torsional stiffness and low rotating inertia and custom designed units are available for alternate measurement ranges and speeds.
