N 2 is adsorbed from a gas mixture containing N2 and less strongly adsorbed components such as 02, H2, Ar, or He using a zeolite. The zeolite is a binary exchanged X-zeolite having Li and a divalent cation selected from Ba, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Zn, and their mixture in a ratio of 5-50% divalent cation and 50-95% Li. The binary ion-exchanged X-zeolites exhibit higher N2 capacity and N/O selectivity than the Li X-zeolite in the prior art.

The improvement to the process comprises using a bonded agglomerate adsorbent prepared by calcining a green form of the agglomerate comprising water, an inorganic oxide matrix and the zeolite in its as-synthesized form to set the binder and activate the zeolite.
