On-line pump qualification Hydraulic Institute announces executive leadership team The British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) is launching the first in a suite of three industrially and nationally recognized e-learning courses to raise the knowledge and awareness of the technical issues of pumping.
The first level ‘Introduction’ provides standardized terminology and a basic approach to the various pump types. It is targeted at all
employees who need to know the language of the pump industry. The course is broken down into topics, each concluding with a short test constituting the course work. If the course work is satisfactory a final assessment will be authorized. A pass rate of 60% must be achieved in the final assessment in order to gain OCN (Open College Network) certification. www.bmpa.org
Swagelok acquires assets of Coreflex LLC Swagelok Company has completed its acquisition of the assets of Coreflex LLC. Located in Bowie, Maryland, USA, Coreflex is a manufacturer of highquality hose products used mostly in semiconductor, biopharmaceutical, and other demanding applications.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The Coreflex product line broadens the Swagelok Company’s portfolio of hose products. www.swagelok.com.
The Hydraulic Institute (HI) has named its executive leadership team. John Miersma, vice president, CFO and COO of Iwaki America Inc has been named the organization’s new chairman of the Board, while Bill Waltz, president of Pentair Water, will serve as HI president. Other key appointments include Dave McKinstry, vice president of IMO Pump, as vice president of Technical Affairs, Dennis Ziegler, president and CEO of GIW Industries Inc as vice president of Member Services, and Gretchen McClain, president of ITT Corporation – Fluid Technology, as vice president of Knowledge & Education. Robert K Asdal, executive director of the HI will continue to serve as the
organization's secretary and treasurer. Former HI chairman of the board Tom E Ferguson and Albert F Huber will also continue as members of the Board of Directors. It was also recently announced that Michael S Cropper has been named 2007 Member of the Year during the HI annual meeting held at Marco Island, Florida, USA. Since Cropper, who serves as global product development manager at Sulzer Pumps, joined the association in 2003, he has driven the efforts to revise and expand the organization’s standard rotodynamic (centrifugal) pumps design and application. www.pumps.org
