SYMPOSIUM ON EARTHQUAKE EFFECTS, DECEMBER 1984 Energy Systems Group of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and the Indian Society of Earthquake Technology are organising a Symposium on Earthquake Effects on Plant and Equipment to be held on December 20, 21 & 22, 1984 at Hyderabad (India). The technical sessions of the symposium will cover the following themes with special reference to industrial/power plant structures and equipment: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Recent earthquakes, strong ground motions and earthquake instrumentation, seismic risk analysis. Response of plant structures and equipment to ground shaking. Earthquake withstand testing of plant structures and equipment. Response of special structures such as piping, cooling towers, transmission towers etc. Fluid-structure interaction and sloshing effects in storage tanks, transformers etc. Criteria for earthquake resistant design, testing methodology for plant structures and equipment. Case histories of damage to plant structures and equipment.
