Watson-Marlow buys Maso Process Pumpen
Varley Pumps installs new test bay
Watson-Marlow GmbH has acquired Maso Process Pumpen GmbH from the Sundyne Corp.
Rotary gear pump manufacturer Varley Pumps has completed phase one of the installation of a new test bay at its factory in Luton, UK.
Maso Process Pumpen’s pumps, which are marketed mainly to the sanitary pump market in Europe and North America under the Maso and Sine trade names, will be branded as MasoSine. The design and manufacture of MasoSine pumps will continue in Ilsfeld, Germany. MasoSine’s sales operations serving Germany, the
USA and the UK will be merged into existing Watson-Marlow Pumps Group sales companies. The €25 million purchase price, which is subject to a final valuation of the net tangible assets on completion of the deal, will be financed from a newly agreed €25 million loan facility. www.watson-marlow.com www.masosine.com
Baker Hughes expands in pressure pumping Baker Hughes Inc is to acquire the pressure pumping company BJ Services Co in a US$5.5 billion deal. “BJ Services broadens our portfolio by adding products, technologies and talented people that are key to helping our customers unlock value in their reservoirs, particularly in unconventional gas and deepwater fields. It will better position us to drive international growth and to compete for the growing large integrated projects by incorporating pressure pumping into our product offering,” said Chad Deaton, Baker Hughes chairman, president and chief executive officer. Baker Hughes has a long record of partnering with BJ Services on
major projects. “The proposed merger will make Baker Hughes a stronger, more efficient service provider for our customers worldwide, by integrating pressure pumping with Baker Hughes’ wide range of products and services,” said Deaton. While pressure pumping accounted for less than 1% of Baker Hughes’ revenues in 2008, post-acquisition it is expected to generate approximately 20% of the new combined company’s revenues. ClydeUnion wins Indian power contract ClydeUnion Pumps’ Conventional Power business unit is to design, manufacture, test and install six large boiler feed pump packages for the 2x800 MW coal-fired Krishnapatnam Power Project in India.

Flowserve names new president and CEO Flowserve Corp chief financial officer Mark Blinn is to succeed Lewis Kling as president and chief executive officer of the company from 1 October 2009. Kling has been elected vice chairman of the Flowserve board effective 1 October 2009, and will retire from the company in February 2010. Blinn, who joined Flowserve in 2004 as chief financial officer, has also been in charge of Latin America operations since October 2007. “I have worked very closely with, and relied upon Mark as our
senior vice president, chief financial officer and Latin American operations for over four years,” said Kling. “He is an outstanding global executive and is ready to lead the company. The timing of this transition will enable Mark, with my support, to effectively drive the company’s 2010 strategic and financial planning processes, which are now getting underway.
