Quantitation
1 & 2, 1996, Alexandria,
and Detection” Virginia
Trace analysis can employ various ionization and data processing techniques for acceptable detection, confirmation and quantitation. Consequently, a widely differing comprehension has evolved in the scientific literature of how to calculate the detection limit and what constitutes unambiguous confirmation. At the same time, it is clear that regulatory agencies, courts and the public expect analytical results to be defensible and interpretable in only one way. The workshop will strive to develop a consensus set of criteria and/or guidelines which can be used to develop and validate methods. These guidelines will address issues of specificity, accuracy, reproducibility, limit of detection and applicability. The guidelines will be formulated from statistical theory, regulatory examples and practical experiences using a wide variety of MS and MS/MS techniques. Speakers Topics Universiv

The Biemann Medal to honor Professor Klaus Biemann as an educator and scientist The Biemann
Medal recognizes a significant achievement in basic or applied mass spectrometry
made by an individual early in his or her career. The award is presented in honor of Professor Klaus Biemann whose lasting legacy is the training of students and postdoctoral associates over a 40 year period at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Biemann Medal i’s endowed by contributions from students, postdoctoral associatesand friends of Professor Biemann. Eligibility is not restricted to members of ASMS or by citizenship. The award will be conferred at the ASMS Annual Conference with the presentation of the Biemann Medal and a cash award. To submit a nomination, photocopy and complete this form and enclose the following: 1. Short description of achievement (l-2 paragraphs) outlining the significant achievement and an indication of the impact of the achievement; pertaining to this award and a copy of no more than two of the nominee’s publications relevant to the subject.
