News and Announcements THE RAMON GUITERAS AWARD The AUA presents an award annually to an individual who has made distinguished contributions to Urology. This award is presented in honor of Dr. Ramon Guiteras, who was one of the founders of the Association and its first president. Recipient of the 1983 Ramon Guiteras Award is Dr. William W. Scott. THE FERDINAND C. VALENTINE AWARD Dr. Ferdinand C. Valentine made a bequest to the New York Academy of Medicine to establish a fund, the income from which was to be used for periodic awards to individuals who have made distinguished contributions to Urology. Doctor Valentine was one of the founders of the AUA, its first secretary and its third president. Recipient of the 1983 Ferdinand C. Valentine Award is Dr. John K. Lattimer. THE HUGH HAMPTON YOUNG AWARD In 1969 Bristol Laboratories of Syracuse, New York established an honorarium to be known as the Hugh Hampton Young Award, for presentation annually by the AUA to an individual who has made outstanding contributions in the field of urinary tract infection. Doctor Young was president of the AUA during 1907-1908 and founded, in 1917, The Journal of Urology, which is the official publication of the Association. Recipient of the 1983 Hugh Hampton Young Award is Dr. Ralph A. Straffon. Previous recipients of the Award have been: Dr. John T. Grayhack, 1979 Dr. William H. AUA GOLD CYSTOSCOPE AWARD The AUA Gold Cystoscope Award was created by the AUA Executive Committee in 1977. It is financed by American Cystoscope Makers, Inc., Stamford, Connecticut. This award is given annually to a young urologist who has distinguished himself by outstanding contributions to the specialty within 10 years of having completed his urological training. Recipient of the 1983 AUA Gold Cystoscope Award is Dr. Robert J. Krane. Previous recipients of the Award have been: Dr. Stuart S. Howards, 1980 Dr. Donald G. Skinner, 1977 Dr. E. AUA CONTINUING EDUCATION A WARD The AUA presents an award annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to continuing further medical education of the practicing urologist. This award is financed by a portion of the interest from a grant generously made by Dr. and Mrs. Russell Scott, Jr., Aspen, Colorado, to the AUA Education Fund. Recipient of the 1983 AUA Continuing Education Award is Dr. Arthur T. Evans. 205
