THE GEORGE FLEMING PRIZE rg67 The prize has been awarded this year to Dr. R. G. Dalton of the University of Liverpool, Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies for his paper on "The Effect of Starvation on the Fluid and Electrolyte Metabolism of eonatal Calves" which was published this year in the June issue of the British Veterinary Journal. The George Fleming prize was established in r 965 to signalize the ninetieth year of publication of the journal and is awarded annually by the publishers for what is considered to be the best paper published in the journal during the year. All papers accepted for publication are considered but, other things being equal, preference is given to those dealing with clinical topics or applied veterinary science. This year's award draws attention to the current interest in the clinical application of new information on fluid and electrolyte metabolism. Papers on general topics and free topics may be submitted to the organizing committee not later than December 31st, rg67. An abstract of about 200 words meant for the working paper should be presented before April 30th, rg68 and the contributions up to 1000 words for the general report not later than May 31st, 1968. The general report with all contributions in the original language and summaries in the three official languages will be published after the meeting. The languages of the meeting are English, German and French, simultaneous translations being provided for. Registration fees, which include the delivery of the working paper and the

general report, are the following for ordinary members : U.S. $14.00 before May 31st rg68 from june 1st to August 31st 1968 U.S. $2o.oo after September 1st 1968 U.S. $30.00 Visitors pay an additional $2.oo in each group. Enrolments and hotel reservations should be made on special forms which will be sent to all members before the end of rg67. Non-members can apply for these forms to the Organizing Committee, Prof. Dr. U.
