T H E I N T E R N A T I O N A L SYMPOSIUM ON F I R E E N G I N E E R I N G F O R B U I L D I N G S T R U C T U R E S A N D SAFETY This symposium is to be held in Melbourne, Australia from 14-16 November 1989 at Clunies Ross House. The symposium will provide a forum for the discussion of matters related to the design of building structures to resist the effects of fire. A number of international speakers will be participating including Margaret Law (UK), Ulf Wickstrom (Sweden) and Tibor Harmathy (Canada). Subjects being addressed during the seminar include: • • • • •
Design of steel, concrete and composite structures for fireresistance Design of timber structures for fire-resistance Compartment fires and fire growth Fire safety design Risk-cost models for assessing fire-safety
