what more sedate and luckily were in English.’ These included topics such as neuroanatomy, child development, sports physiotherapy, reflector i a I breathing massage and sling suspension. Hospital visits included the two main hospitals in Coburg. One is a general hospital, the other a specialised orthopaedic hospital. We spent some time at both these, watching the German students treat some of their patients. Other places we visited were a spinal injuries unit at Bayreuth, a very modern rehabilitation centre at Munich which was aimed mainly at the treatment of stroke patients and head injuries, and a centre for
physically/mentally disabled children. Over the two weeks we also managed to squeeze in some sight-seeing and socialising. We had a very interesting trip to the border with East Germany. We also spent two days in Munich where we visited the Olympic Stadium which held the 1974 Games. Social events included a champagne reception at Coburg Castle, a summer party at the school and several visits to local eating and drinking establishments. So, all in all, the Coburg Summer-school was a great success. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was very interesting, a great way of meeting people and very recommendable.
Globetrotters’ Gen The Education Department at the CSP has prepared a comprehensive database for physiotherapists going to developing countries. It contains details of courses, resources, publications, low-cost aids and so on. This would be a valuable first step in preparation for an elective in a developing country. For those going on electives in a ‘developed’ country, the CSP holds files with basic information. Most Embassies or High Commissions will be pleased to provide details of their countries‘ health care systems.
