The Practical Approach Series Cumulative Methods Index. Series Editors D.Rickwood and B.D.Hemes. Oxford University Press 1991. ISBN 0-19-963227-8 (pbk}. Reproduced below is the introduction to this volume, which is printed with permission from Oxford University Press. The Volume was received for reviewing in this Journal and it seemed that the Introduction itself provided an excellent review of the contents. ************

The Practical Approach Series has grown dramatically since its launch in 1982, with over Sixty titles in print and 200 000 copies in circulation. The series covers a large number of techniques, some of which appear in several books considered from different viewpoints. This index has been compiled, therefore, to help researchers to identify those books and sections of books which describe the sections of interest. As such, it will also be of considerable value to librarians and booksellers. It should be noted that, while a wide selection of useful methods is included in this index, it cannot hope to cover every technique described in all of the volumes. Rather, the index is a guide to the volumes which should be consulted for further information. Each volume has been assigned a code, the full listings for which are found overleaf. Each method entry in the index is followed by the individual volume codes and page numbers where details of the method can be found (see example below). Page numbers in bold type refer to the locations of primary information and background for the technique. The title of each volume provides a broad indication of the application of the technique, from which the reader m a y choose according to his or her particular interests. Example= Biotin(biotinylation) AC91,Fc54 avidin methods for proteins LMB 117-19 conjugated antibodies DC3 133-4, 135, Ly 41.

labelled probes E M M B 2 2 0 - 2 , NAH 42-4, 92-3, 99, SH 135 labelling of D N A P M B 1 2 7 - 8 nucleic acid probes, hybridization in situ ACC 225. see also Avidin.

Thus, protocols for using biotin for labelling probes can be found in the following:
