USE OF F.P.L.C. AND OTHER TECHNIQUES FOR OL~GNOSIS OF COMPLICATIONS OF PREGNANCY R. ABRAHAM, S.P. AHUJA, A. SINGH and S.D.SHARMA, Department of Biochemistry, Punjab Agric.University, Ludhiana, India Lipid profiles of amniotic-fluid (AF) are used for diagnosis and management of complications of pregnancy. In the present studies lecithin (L) and L:S (sphingomyelin) was increased in cases of moderate and severe Pre-eclampsia toxaemia (PET) and the L:S was decreased in cases of diabetes, placental insufficiency (PI), Rh-isoimmunization (Rh-I), Intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and infections, which respectively indicated early and delayed maturation of foetal lungs. The phospholipids and L:PG (Phosphatidylglycerol) profiles were also good indicators. Analysis of AF, blood plasma, milk, colostrum and prepartum mammary secretions by FPLC, PAGE and immunochemical methods showed presence of marker polypeptides (PP) during complications of pregnancy. Low mol.wt. PP were increased in cases of hypertension (HT) and PI with severe PET, foetal distress (FD), IUGR, eclampsia, anencephalics, eclampsia with IUGR, and PET with increasing severity. Very low mol.~dc. PP were increased in cases of FD, HT and PI with PET. Medium mol.wt.PP were increased in cases of Rh-I and urinary tract infection (UTI) whereas high mol.wt. PP were increased in cases of Rh-I, IUGR, UTI and anencephalics. The results indicated that the analyses of easily availabe body fluid instead of AF can be used for diaonosis.
P 97 THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INNUNOLOGICAL AND ENOOCRINOLOGICAL DISODERS IN HABITUAL ABORTERS
NORIKO ANDOH,FUNIKI HIRAHARA, ITSUO GORAI AND HIROSHI NINAGUCHI Dept.of OB/GYN, Yokohama City University School of Medicine 3-46, Urafune, Ninami-ku, Yokohama, JAPAN 232 The e t i o l o g y of c h r o n i c a b o r t i o n ( h a b i t u a l a b o r t i o n ) v a r i e s from cases to cases. Immunological mechanisms for h a b i t u a l a b o r t i o n have been p o s t u l a t e d , and r e c e n t l y , the treatment for h a b i t u a l a b o r t i o n by i n o c u l a t i o n w i t h husband s lymphocytes i n t o h i s wife has brought successful outcome. On t h e o t h e r hand, we found high incidence of p r o l a c t i n ( P R L ) disorder in h a b i t u a l aborters. In t h i s paper ,we s t u d i e d the r e l a t i o n s h i p between h a b i t u a l a b o r t i o n and immunological/endocrinological disorders. The p a t i e n t s w i t h c h r o n i c a b o r t i o n were assessed by the c l i n i c a l e v a l u a t i o n s i n c l u d i n g immunological and e n d o c r i n o l o g i c a l a n a l y s i s . T h i r t y e i g h t percent of h a b i t u a l aborters have PRL d i s o r d e r s (20% of h y p e r g r o l a c t i n e m i a and 18% of o c c u l t h y p e r p r o l a c t i n e m i a which shows h y g e r r e a c t i v i t y to TRH t e s t ) . In a d d i t i o n , high incidence of shared HLA antigens between the couple was observed both in the groups w i t h PRL d i s o r d e r s and unknown e t i o l o g y (three or more shared; 43Z, 40%, respectively). P r o l a c t i n d i s o r d e r s may play a r o l e in c h r o n i c a b o r t i o n , but i t is not c l e a r which one, PRL d i s o r d e r or HLA sharing, or both may play a main role in causing h a b i t u a l a b o r t i o n s .
