FW enters 3-year Statoil frame agreement for FEEDs

F

oster Wheeler has signed a three-year frame agreement with Statoil Petroleum AS to provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for future projects at the Kårstø and Kollsnes processing plants in Norway. The frame agreement includes an option for Statoil to extend the arrangement for a further two years and for Foster Wheeler to execute concept studies as well as FEEDs. The Kårstø processing plant plays a key role in the transport and treatment of gas and condensate from 28 fields on the Norwegian continental shelf. The processing plant at Kollsnes treats gas from the Troll, Kvitebjørn and Visund fields in the North Sea, and can handle up to 143 million standard cubic metres per day.

Samsung partners with AMEC for offshore projects

amsung Heavy Industries and Samsung Engineering are setting up a joint venture with the UK’s AMEC which will specialise in offshore engineering. AMEC Samsung Oil & Gas LLC will be based in Houston, USA. Samsung will use the joint venture to provide topside front-end engineering and design (FEED) and the detailed design of offshore production facilities. AMEC has provided FEED detailed design and project management services for a number of offshore development projects operated by major global oil companies such as Shell, BP, ConocoPhilips and Petrobras. 4

Jacobs to support Australian upstream natural gas project

acobs Engineering Group Inc is to work on the Santos GLNG Project coal seam gas field development in Australia. The Santos GLNG Project is a multibillion dollar coal seam gas to LNG development in Queensland, Australia. Jacobs is providing commissioning and start up management support for the transition of facilities into sustainable operations. The three and a half year contract has a one-year extension option.

Samsung to build Saudi power plant

A

consortium of Samsung Engineering (South Korea), Shanghai Electric (China) and Al Toukhi (Saudi Arabia) are to build Saline Water Conversion Corp’s (SWCC) US$3 billion Yanbu Power Plant Phase 3 in Saudi Arabia. Samsung Engineering was awarded a US$1.5 billion contract to execute the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning for the power plant on a lump-sum turnkey basis. The 3100 MW power and desalination plant will be built in Al-Madinah Province, the southern part of Yanbu, and it will provide electricity for the Yanbu Industrial complex. The power plant will take 48 months to complete.

SNC-Lavalin consortium awarded Polish power plant contract

A

consortium that includes SNC-Lavalin and General Electric International Inc has been awarded a turnkey contract by PKN Orlen to build a combined cycle power plant in Wloclawek, Poland.

The 463 MW plant will produce power through a gas turbine with a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and steam turbine. SNC-Lavalin will supply all plant equipment, excluding the gas turbine (with HRSG) and the steam turbine and generator. The company will also provide project management, engineering, procurement, construction, start up and commissioning services for the overall project. Construction is scheduled to start in March 2013, and is expected to take 36 months to complete.

Alstom to provide and service German CHP plant

A

lstom has signed a contract with Germany’s RheinEnergie for the turnkey construction of a 450 MW combined-cycle heat and power plant (CHP) in Cologne. The E350 million Niehl 3 CHP power plant will be based on Alstom’s gas-fired KA26 combined-cycle plant design. The project includes the delivery of one GT26 gas turbine, one steam turbine, the turbo-generator, heat recovery steam generator and district heaters as well as power plant control systems. Commissioning of the power plant is scheduled for 2016. Alstom has also signed a 15-year service agreement for the plant.

Thiess secures coal handling contract in Bowen Basin

A

ustralian construction, mining and services contractor Thiess Pty Ltd has won two new contracts worth approximately A$220 million from the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance for construction work on the Caval Ridge Mine Project in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, Australia. Under the contracts, Thiess will build a A$125 million coal handling and preparation plant and the A$95 million rail loop and holding roads.
