Three-axis handling system suits sealing dispensers Gudel UK has developed threeaxis positioning systems to suit sealant-dispensing applications. The units offer a highly costeffective method of accurately dispensing sealant or similar materials. They incorporate the proven TS1000 control systems for easy programming, and feature a highaccuracy three-axis linear module that offers a maximum travel of 2500 × 2500 × 500 mm in the x-, y- and z-axes. Full three-axis interpolation ensures that the system is suitable

for complex 3D components. Ballscrews and servo drives provide accurate positioning in three planes for consistent sealant bead width, and optimum raw material utilization. Feed rates up to 1 m/s are feasible, with multiple start/stop signals for intermittent bead application cycles. Contact: Gudel UK, 5 Wickmans Drive, Banner Lane, Coventry CV4 9XA, UK. Flange gasket designed for standard and high-purity applications George Fischer has introduced a new SYGEF gasket for both standard and high-purity applications using polyvinylidene (PVDF) pipework. Manufactured to ANSI specifications with EPDM rubber and a TFM (modified PTFE) covering exposed to the fluid stream, the new gasket features excellent compressibility (low torque), simple installation and chemical resistance. The SYGEF gasket is offered in both Standard Purity and High Purity versions, in sizes from 25 mm (¾ inch) to 250 mm (10 inch). The Standard Purity version, which is single-bagged in a clean

environment and lot-inspected, is suitable for a wide variety of chemical applications. The High Purity version, which is cleaned, 100% inspected and double-bagged in a Class 1000 clean-room, is suitable for both ambient and hot UPW applications. The gasket incorporates a self-centering design. Contact: George Fischer Inc, 2882 Dow Avenue, Tustin, CA 92780-7258, USA. Helden adaptors good for more than a quarter-century of operation Black & Veatch has ordered 300 Helden flange adaptors for the Ajman sewage treatment project, the first urban wastewater concession in the Middle East. B&V is the engineering procurement and construction contractor for the program, and a lead partner with Thames Water in the new utility company created to build the system. The adaptors range in diameter from DN100 up to DN900, and are being used at the treatment plant in valve chambers and for other critical connections

between steel, GRP and PE pipework. The partnership has a contract to build the plant and operate it for 27.5 years. The 49 000 m3/day works and its associated 250 km collection network will serve 260 000 customers, who until now have had to rely on septic tanks. Electronic multifunctional device for mechanical seals Italian-based Termoelettronica has filed a patent for SEALsafe, an electronic multifunctional device for mechanical seals. SEALsafe is a microprocessorbased device for advanced automatic control and management of the operating and diagnostic conditions of mechanical seals. It will run automatic and scheduled leakage tests of the seal system and evaluate the integrity index, comparing it with the original conditions. Operating parameters of the seal such as pressure and temperature, running time and number of start/stops are recorded. A typical installation for a conventional wet seal system will allow automatic control or monitoring of:

• •

Set, adjust and control the pressurization of the seal. Control the seal temperature according to ATEX 95. Run automatic leakage tests to verify integrity of the seal.

• • •

Monitor and optimize the working conditions. Recognize and manage alarm conditions. Certify main parameters, working time and alarm situations. Provide for interfacing to other control systems.

The system is provided with four analog inputs and three outputs, eight digital inputs and 24 outputs. It can manage 11 alarms at five priority levels, and allows a total of more than 70 parameters to be set directly by the operator. A graphic display allows for continuous monitoring of operation, and a flash memory will continuously record 155 parameters.

New facility expands scope of Gulf region seal service John Crane has expanded customer support and service options to Gulf region customers, with the opening of a Customer Support Centre in Qatar. The centre includes a fast-track workshop staffed with fully trained and experienced John Crane engineers. It offers engineering services, failure analysis, refurbishment and static pressure testing, along with a round-theclock on-site emergency service capability. It also provides a variety of asset management and reliability optimization services. Genuine John Crane spare parts are available from the center, and can be held on behalf of individual customers as bonded stocks in order to reduce supply times. With over 6000 wet seals and 400 gas seal cartridges installed in the country, John Crane now has a major market share and a comprehensive customer base which

encompasses the oil & gas, power generation, chemical and petrochemical sectors. Located in Qatar’s Salwa Industrial Area, the new center has been opened in conjunction with Al Ahed Trading & Cont. Co Ltd, John Crane’s partner in Qatar for more than 30 years. This center follows the recent launch of a similar new facility in Saudi Arabia, and helps to provide John Crane customers in the region with easy, local access to the company’s support network.
