Lydall invests in new filtration manufacturing

L

ydall Inc has officially commissioned a new wet-laid manufacturing asset to produce filtration media for its Performance Materials business headquartered in Rochester, New Hampshire, USA. The new Mini Mill, a state-of-the-art, wet-laid nonwovens production line, is designed to be flexible and more responsive to the needs of customers. The compact, flexible line will provide customers with customised high quality products in smaller batch sizes. “Since 2007 we have been working on transforming Lydall to better focus on our customers, our employees, and our processes to produce high quality products. With the new Mini Mill, we have a world class asset that can produce filtration media of high quality standards, in a cost-effective manner that will secure a competitive advantage for us on a global basis,” explained Dale Barnhart, Lydall’s president and CEO. Toray seals Woongjin Chemical share purchase

T

oray Industries Inc subsidiary Toray Advanced Materials Korea Inc has completed its purchase of a 56% stake in Woongjin Chemical Co Ltd (see Filtration Industry Analyst, November 2013). Woongjin Chemical’s CSM filter division manufactures reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, and microfiltration membrane products. Toray Advanced Materials Korea’s products include water treatment membrane modules. Toray retained Nomura Securities Co Ltd as its financial advisor on the transaction. Last year, Silicon Valley membrane startup Porifera Inc closed Series A financing and a development, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement with Woongjin

Tetra Pak buys Miteco

T

etra Pak has acquired Switzerland-based Miteco, a provider of production solutions, including filtration systems, for soft drinks, fruit juices and liquid food. Established in 1982, Miteco is a privately held company with 70 employees across sites in Switzerland, Italy, UK and South America. “The acquisition of Miteco positions Tetra Pak as a world leader in production solutions for carbonated soft drinks, with an unrivalled product portfolio backed by strong technical support and broad geographic presence,” said Tim High, executive vice president of Tetra Pak Processing Systems. “It also extends the company’s beverage production capabilities in a number of key areas, including sugar handling, dissolving, refining, mixing and blending beverage ingredients, providing an important complement to our existing portfolio of processing solutions.” Miteco sales and operations director Guillermo Fernandez added: “We are confident that becoming part of Tetra Pak will allow the Miteco business to continue to grow. Tetra Pak’s global presence, plus the combined knowledge and skills of our two companies, promise improved solutions and better services for both existing and future customers worldwide.”
