UF m o d u l e features double skinned membrane Pall F i l t r o n C o r p o r a t i o n ' s B i o S e p a r a t i o n s Division h a s l a u n c h e d t h e M i c r o z a LGV s e r i e s of u l t r a f i l t r a t i o n m o d u l e s . D e v e l o p e d for t h e p r e - t r e a t m e n t of p r o c e s s water, t h e m o d u l e s u s e p r o p r i e t y h y d r o p h i l i c hollow fibre t e c h n o l o g y w h i c h is c l a i m e d to offer h i g h a n d s t a b l e flux r a t e s . The Microza h o l l o w fibre m e m b r a n e c o n s i s t s of a tough, s m o o t h d o u b l e s k i n n e d fibre, w i t h a d e n s e i n t e r n a l layer. T h e u n i f o r m l y t i g h t s k i n on b o t h t h e i n s i d e a n d o u t s i d e of t h e fibre p r o v i d e s c o n t a m i n a n t removal, w h i l s t r e t a r d i n g b a c t e r i a l g r o w t h a n d fouling. It a l s o e n h a n c e s m e c h a n i c a l s t r e n g t h . This s t r u c t u r e m e a n s t h a t fibres a r e a b l e w i t h s t a n d h i g h t r a n s m e m b r a n e p r e s s u r e in e i t h e r d i r e c t i o n . In n o r m a l flow, LGV m o d u l e s a r e o p e r a t e d w i t h feed flow on t h e h i g h s u r f a c e a r e a o u t e r l a y e r of t h e fibres for m a x i m u m c a p a c i t y . Periodically, t h e flow t h r o u g h t h e m e m b r a n e is r e v e r s e d to c l e a n t h e m e m b r a n e s u r f a c e . T h e u l t r a f i l t r a t i o n m o d u l e s a r e d e s i g n e d to replace conventional pretreatment systems such as coagulation and settling tanks, and multimedia beds. They protect reverse osmosis and deionization s y s t e m s , a n d p r o v i d e h i g h level r e m o v a l of p r o t o z o a , bacteria and viruses. T h e Microza m e m b r a n e s u r f a c e is p o l y a c r y l o n i t r i l e . T h e m o d u l e s h a v e a m o l e c u l a r w e i g h t c u t - o f f (MWCO) of 13 000 a n d a r e a v a i l a b l e in two sizes: 3.5" d i a m e t e r / 4 4 " l e n g t h a n d 5.5" d i a m e t e r / 8 8 " length.
